HIV Risk Somme Symptons
« on: December 13, 2013, 11:17:27 am »
On November 14th I had unprotected vaginal sex with a very routine sexual partner.  I say routine because we have been partners (sexually) for well over two years.  I would have thought nothing of it except I have since had some symptoms arise that I cant explain.  About a week afterwards I started experiencing a lightheadedness and some minor fatigue.  Along with that came some muscle pain in my thighs and my upper arms.  No weakness but the pain or ache has been there off or on for the last  3 weeks.  The lightheadedness and fatigue cleared up in roughly 10 days.  No fever, rash, or sore throat ever presented itself.

A little more information I have a history of anxiety and panic attacks.  I haven't had one in years but the persistence of my above described symptoms put me in the ER.  They guessed at stroke and performed an EKG, CT scan, and some bloodwork.  That all proved normal.  The next week I went to an urgent care facility more blood work and a physical exam.  Nothing there either so they suggested I had had a panic attack.  At that point I stumbled upon this forum and saw that some of my symptoms and timeline match up with ARS.  So I took my first at home Oraquick (negative) on the 6th of December which I know now is to early.

So I guess my questions is can my anxiety really be the driver of most of what is ailing me and how much longer should I wait before testing again?  Thank you for taking the time to read my entire post.
So my question is

Demi, there is nothing HIV specific about any of your symptoms.

However, it is never wise to have unprotected intercourse unless you are in a securely monogamous relationship in which both partners have tested negative at a reliable testing point.

If that doesn't describe your situation with your "routine sexual partner," then you ought to get tested and be using condoms everytime for intercourse until if and when you are in a relationship as I have described.

Meantime you should be discussing your symptoms with your doctor. As I said there is nothing HIV specific about them.

Thank you for your quick reply.  I just have one more question my muscle aches have disappeared and now have been replaced with a constantly upset stomach.  No vomiting or diarrhea but I can constantly hear my stomach growling.  My appetite is definitly lowered as well.  I read though that acute HIV comes all at once for the most part so my staggering of symptoms doesn't fit as well.  Either way I would appreciate an expierenced voice on the matter.  Thank you.

Demick, we do not diagnose symptoms here. We only evaluate situations in terms of level of HIV risk, if any. Period.

Again, there is nothing HIV specific in your reported symptoms.

In general neither the presence nor the absence of symptoms will ever tell you anything accurately about your HIV status. Only an HIV test taken at the right time can give you an conclusive and reliable result.

No I understand not being able to diagnose from symptoms but also thanks for being honest with me about how relatable my symptom's are to ars.  You have set my mind at ease at least a little.  Will definitely be getting tested at 6 and 12 weeks. Thanks again.
