Whats weird is no one is talking to her about it or even brought it up .
Who would have the intimacy to say something, its work after all, and what could they possibly say?  You are thinking someone might want to ask how she feels that she had botched aesthetic surgery?   How is that gonna help.  I did say something like that to an older "gentleman friend" when yet another "adjustment" tipped his face from "this guy has had a lot of work done" to "woaw way too much work."  It. was. not. what. he. wanted. to. hear.  His old lady firends all told him he looked great and thats what he wanted to believe.  This was a lesson for me, not him.
Those beauty parlour workers probably have the wisdom to decide that in this case no comment is best.

When I was changing planes in Memphis to a meeting in New Orleans, Dolly was sitting in front section as I was walking through. I took the op to explain and give her a SILENCE = DEATH button. She took it. I didn't quite have the nerve to pin it on her.

Go, Dolly!

2000-2009 - Did Cher have a hit? Up to 2000 I seem to remember she was the longest success in Pop?
I'd certainly give any new disc a listen, hoping for the best.

As of 2011, Cher is recording her first studio album since Living Proof in 2001. She initially talked of recording a rock album in Nashville, leading to speculation that it would be country-oriented.[118] Cher has since stated on Twitter that the record will be "way dance".[119] Lady Gaga has provided a song for the album, entitled The Greatest Thing, recorded as a duet between the two singers.[120] Cher plans to release the album at Christmas.[121] The singer has also tweeted of the possibility of embarking on a comeback tour to promote the album in 2012.[122]

That wasn't a hit.  As far as I recall it didn't even crack the top 75 either in the US or the UK.  Her last real hit was "Believe."

That wasn't a hit.
what is the definition of a "hit"?
Top 10? Top 40? Top 100?
On what chart does it qualify to be a "hit"?

Mecch inquired about Cher's "hits" from 2000-09. Cher had had no single releases off her internet-released "Not.com.mercial" but did chart with her late 2001 release of "Living Proof", which had 4 #1 Dance Chart hits, and one Billboard hit reaching 85. While none of the songs reached the peaks of "Believe" back in 99, there were songs released off this album that did fairly well and that did place high on various charts making them at least "minor hits".

Quote
It (the album) debuted at #9 on the Billboard Top 200 albums chart with sales of 114,000 copies in its first week.
...
"Song for the Lonely" peaked at number 85 on the Billboard Hot 100 and number one on the Billboard Hot Dance Music/Club Play chart (one of four songs from the album to top the U.S. dance chart).

The song was a hit, although only peaking at #85 on the Hot 100, it managed top 40 on some U.S airplay charts.

I think I was referring to her being the only pop star with "no. 1" hits in 4 decades.  Which may or may not have been true.  I think the dance hits then of 2001/2 count for me, (relevant, thus, for 5 decades??) but not for the record books.  Amazing if she scores no.1 in 2011/12.  Hasn't she gotten her Kennedy Award yet, or is she far too big for that.  Mount Rushmore, me thinks.

Added:  I am corrected!
http://kearth101.radio.com/2011/01/19/six-consecutive-decades-of-no-1-hits-from-cher/

Cher has added another record to her already long list of accolades during her six-decade career. This week, the Diva tops the Billboard Dance/Club Play Songs chart with her latest single “You Haven’t Seen the Last of Me,” making her the only act in music to score a No.1 hit for six decades in a row.

We obviously will never see the last of the extraordinary Cher, who still keeps on producing hit after hit and reinventing herself to stay on top of her game year after year. How many other acts can say the same? Check out the past six decades of Cher’s No.1 hits on the Billboard charts starting with the song launched her career with “I Got You, Babe.”

Cher top the Billboard charts for the first time on Aug. 14, 1965 with “I Got You, Babe” as part of Sonny & Cher. The song reigned on top for three weeks on the Hot 100 Singles chart.

I read or heard somewhere recently that Barbra Streisand is the only person (or female) to have had a number one album (or single?) in each of the past 5 decades. Not sure how accurate that is but just putting it out there, FYI. Cher's been around longer than Barbra or at least as long. Cher's early hits would have been with Sonny so maybe that's why Barbra has that record.

On what chart does it qualify to be a "hit"?

There is no need to split hairs, Michael.  Facts are facts.  This has some meaning to me, as I worked for a number of years as a buyer for a record chain some time ago.

A "hit" by definition is a song or an album that manages to move a significant number of units.  In our country this has been measured for over 60 years by Billboard magazine.  Until 1991 it was based on sales reported by record stores combined with Radio AirPlay points; after 1991 the charts started using "real", more accurate, and immediate data using Nielsen Soundscan and AirPlay monitored by BDS.  In case it needs to be known, our first number one single using the new methodology was "Set Adrift on Memory Bliss" by P.M. Dawn.  In the UK the charts are based solely on physical sales, making it somewhat more representative of what the public is actually interested in buying, not on what radio is playing to death.

Yes, the dance charts exist, but they're reflective of one (very minute) segment of society at large. They're based on what a certain number of DJs out there report to the magazine.  So, if a commercially released single makes it to number 5 on the Club Play charts, but barely scratches the surface of the "Pop" charts by reaching #85 this is actually deemed a commercial flop, or a minor hit by those who want to be kind.

I don't dislike Cher, but the reality remains that her last real "hit" in the States was the significantly large "Believe".  In the UK she managed four additional hits (as in items that actually moved commercial units), the last of them being "The Music Is No Good Without You" in 2001.

you split the hair first :D defining Mecch's "hit" question as only hits in the top 10 or whatever "significant number of units" moved is your definition of a "hit". I was simply pointing out that it's not like Cher didn't produce nothing in nearly the decade of 2000-2009, as she had several dance chart "hits", an adult chart "hit", and a "hit" song in the BB top 100.

However, I do concede what seems to be your point that she had no top 10 "hit" on the BB chart in that time period.

Just because 10 or 15 poppered up queens from coast to coast twirled to these songs on a dance floor that does not define them as hits in the strict sense of the word.   That's like saying that oooh, Paris Hilton's album was a lak a huge success coz it hit #24 in Indonesia.  A hit is a hit, not mah definition.  Let me add a smiley face so that you know I ain't mad atcha  ;)

Geez, I could use a hit right now.

Oh, I meant to respond to this.  You are correct:

Quote
Barbra Streisand is the first and only solo artist to put an album in the top five on The Billboard 200 in six different decades. She accomplished this feat as What Matters Most: Barbra Sings The Lyrics Of Alan and Marilyn Bergman entered the charts at #4 during the week ending 28th August, 2011.  The Rolling Stones have scored at least one album in the top five in each of the last six decades, but their only album to chart in this current decade was a reissue of their 1972 Exile On Main St. Streaisand has achieved her record with newly recorded material.

Streisand is the only solo artist who has had a #1 album in each of the last five decades, from the 1960s to the 2000s.

Source Billboard.biz

Now, those are hits.

Poppered up disco queens?  Geez, how long has it been since you were in a club.
I never ever saw anyone in all my years of clubbing sniffing poppers on the dance floor.

Barbra didn't become a "pop star" until the Stoney End, n'est-ce pas? Before that she was a "popular singer"?

As for Cher and club music.  Hmm, I have heard drag queens doing Cher or lipsynching Cher. The only discos I ever heard a newly produced Cher tune were for grown up straight people in Monte Carlo. Believe, in fact.  Sometimes you'd hear Take Me Home in the East Village.  That Larry Levan Live from 1979 was a bootleg tape we all loved in the 80s because in fact we hadn't been clubbers in the 70's.  We thought poppers on the dance floor was something from pre-historic times (e.g. a decade before  ::)

Of course they're not sniffing poppahz, silly.  More like high on K, Tina, or X.  Whatever tickles their pickle.

I often saw poppers sniffing in the 80's, even early 90's -- but only outside of NYC. Hell, I even did ethyl by the pool at the Shelbourne at WMC 2002.

So tell me meech, are you still hoppin' on the dance floor at your age? Brave of you, indeed.

That Larry Levan Live from 1979 was a bootleg tape we all loved in the 80s because in fact we hadn't been clubbers in the 70's.

He DJ'd until 1987 at the Garage -- I thought you lived in NYC at that time.

Sure, cause I have friends of different ages now and here in Switzerland even middle age trendoids do go out.
But I like live music and latin and african clubs too, and those clubs are filled with people of all ages.

I rarely went to the Garage nor later Roxy (90s) though I was OK with Robots.

For the 80's, I would say offhand, the clubs that gave me miscellaneous thrills were Mudd, Max's, CBGBs, Danceteria, Peppermint Lounge, Area, Roxy (when it was hip hop), early Limelight, Tunnel, Palladium, The World, Boy Bar, Pyramid, Nell's, Time Square dives, Susanne Bartsch venues, etc.  We wanted to be eclectic and progressive and go to big or trendy clubs, but basically the best solutions were usually the trashiest and least expensive.

I've always liked Hamburg for its trashy small dives and Paris has had its moments for this as well.

And if it is, finally, Mt. Rushmore, will they put the end of career face or the 70's face?

I like the way she hedges her cred - since the film is a dud she's talking about her new album.

I watched some of his earlier videos. He has stepped up his act considerably and he often nails a Cher impersonation, and gets Madonna every now and then too.
