sex toys
« on: January 25, 2009, 01:17:20 pm »
hello all,

I'm a gay male college student who recently started seeing a guy. I've never had anal sex without a condom; however a recent night worried me. My partner used anal beads on me, and now I'm worried that he possibly hadn't washed it correctly or something and that this is a transmission route for HIV. Am I wrong?

I know once HIV hits the envrionment it lacks the ability to infect, so the sex toy had been sitting out and unused for at least a few days if not weeks. He told me he washes them, but maybe I'm just paranoid to actually believe that he does wash them. What are the odds that I am infected from this incident involving sex toys? Thank you!

HIV is a fragile virus. It's not transmitted on environmental surfaces nor via other sex toys. I don't see any cause for concern.

Just make sure that if and when you have anal intercourse the insertive partner is always without exception wearing a latex condom. Unprotected anal intercourse, for both partners is the only real and proven risk for HIV transmission.

This time you have no cause for concern about HIV.

Cheers.

Condoms with spermicide
« Reply #3 on: February 01, 2009, 06:06:50 pm »
Thank you for the responses from my previous question. The guy and I decided to take our relationship to the sex and after discussing our sexual histories decided to have sex. I was the bottom and we used a Trojan brand condom that had spermicide lubricant on it (i was unaware of this fact at the time). After about 30 seconds I made him pull out and stop because it was hurting too much.

The condom was on for the whole time I was penetrated and it did not break. I started looking at the Internet for information on Spermicide on condoms and saw that it can sometimes increase the risk of HIV?? I thought that by using a condom I was safe?? Can anyone comment on my risk in regards to him having a condom with spermicide lubricant on it? Did I put myself at risk?

Thanlk you.

You had protected sex with no condom failures, so you were never at risk of contracting HIV.

When a condom breaks it's not a subtle event with a teeny tiny hole as some imagine. The whole thing goes and it ends up looking like a hula hoop on the guy's penis.

So if yours had broken you would have known it. In the future make sure that only a water-based lube used, whether you are pitching or catching.

This time I don't see any cause for further concern on your part. And just make that no matter whom you are with the insertive partner is always without exception wearing a latex condom.

Cheers.

Kid,

The reason spermicide might  increase the risk of infection is because it can irritate the lining of the anus or vagina. This only becomes a risk if the condom breaks - and yours didn't. Unless you have an allergy or sensitivity to spermicide or unless you're having sex for hours and hours, it's unlikely to irritate you.

Your condom didn't break and therefore you had no risk.

Keep using condoms, correctly and consistently, and you will continue to avoid hiv infection. It really is that simple.

Read through all three condom and lube links in my signature line so you can use them with confidence.
