Title: Wierd Night Sweats
Post by: Jeffreyj on December 27, 2006, 04:02:40 am
The past month or so, I have had night sweats, but only in my head. I'll go to sleep and within an hour, my pillow and hair is completely soaked. Has anyone experienced3d the same thing?

Meds: kaletra, fuzeon, resciptor (...on these meds 3 years now nothing new)

I really experience this in the spring and summer when asleep...during which times I lay a towel over my pillow(case) to try to absorb the perspiration.  I seem to sweat easily in the summer in general.  The general medical term is hyperhydrosis.

I have been having them also.   Before I started meds I would soak the bed.  Now I just soak the pillow...  I may have to put the pillow in a plastic bag or something and then put the pillow case over it if it continues.   Nothing like a ice cold pillow in the middle of the night!

Jeff - if you're still taking the cymbalta, this can be one of the side effects (more likely at higher doses)

Oh my god(or goddess) -- I can't believe that I am reading this!!  My doctor thought I was nuts when I said this about a year ago.  I had to get up and switch pillows from the guest bed, mine would get so wet -- but I only had the sweat from the neck up!!  The fact that I'm bald and don't cover my head made it even more bizarre in my mind -- my head should be the coolest part of me at night.
I did a little research and came to the following conclusion -- it was due to benadryl and/or ativan.  I read and talked to a pharmacist and it seems that either of these drugs can do this.  I stopped the ativan and cut back on the benadryl and I rarely have it happen any more.
Perhaps it was coincidental, but I'm happy that it seems to have been the answer for me.

Hugs,
Mike

Okay, I have question now...
I just had a night sweat yesterday - pillow soaked, blanket soaked, yet the responses I read here - people are taking different meds.....Do the meds make a difference (considering all the different meds) with the night sweats or is it just being HIV+ ?   :-\

The first few years I had night sweats all over....my sheets were soaked all the time...then they went away for years, now it's just my head that get soaked...and that started a month ago. Last night I was asleep for an hour, and I woke up because my hair was soaked.

Penquin, it could be the cymbalta, but I only take 60mgs/per day. Is that a high dose?

My gut feeling is that this is an HIV-related thing, I'm not sure. But I'm glad I'm not the only one. Thanks for your comments everyone!   At least I know I'm not losing my mind..

I love this place.

Hello Jeffrey,

I also get the sweats around the neck and head. Very seldom anywhere else. It does not happen that often. May happen two three times a month., The following month, may be no problem at all. Glad I have a ceiling fan...It helps.

I have sweats off and on all the time. I don't know which is the contributing factor. HIV or HISTO. I also get hot flashes on an off, almost everyday. No, I'm not raggin.

I used to have night sweats really badly.  I'd sleep on a towel with nothing but a sheet covering me.  I'd have the ceiling fan on medium, the A/C on 72, and a small fan blowing on me and still had 'em.  Since starting the Atripla and dropping the Prozac, I haven't had any.  I did have them before starting Prozac, though.  It must just vary from person to person and how we each react to all the various drugs we're on.  Even in the winter, I leave the ceiling fan on and still use that small fan.  Maybe that helps.

Hey Jeff...

When my anxiety levels where skyrocketed in the past (as sweating is one of our body symptoms from anxiety), I used to have night sweats as well. After a while when I got it under control, they went away. Just sharing my experience with you.

I just am getting over nearly two months of night sweats---would soak the bed and have to change it at least once, maybe twice a night.  And i mean I was waking up doing the back stroke, LOL.   Turned out i had a bacterial infection in my gut and urninary tract and was having high fevers with this at night.  Thought it was the flu at first until I went in for tests.  Fever stopped after the first dose of bactrim and so did the night sweats.  There are lots of reasons for night sweats, but infections too can cause em them.   Rick

I always have night sweats for years. It has gotten a little better since meds but sometimes it gets real bad. I think it is because I have multiple health issues and am on lots of meds.
I sometime think that if  I only had HIV I would not be as sick. But who knows

I have had them for about a month now and I was beginning to wonder was up with me.  Started thinking something could be terribly wrong.  I was just waiting for my next doctor visit to tell it to her.  Good to hear its uncommon

Try buying a "Chillow" they sell them at Discovery stores.  They go inside your pillow case and they keep your pillow and head nice and cool.  Really helped me and I still use it cause I hate a hot pillow.

I usually have sweats on and off through the night. Sometimes they can be bad and I have to end up changing the sheets. First time this happened to me I thought I had peed to bed. :o
