Lately I've been obsessed with seeing as many gay oriented films as possible. Between going to Blockbuster and ordering movies on line with Blockbuster, I've seen about twenty five gay films in the past few weeks. The latest one...
A TOUCH OF PINK was just too cute. I highly recommend this film to all hopeless romantics...it was made in London and Toronto and it is down right inspiring. Other films I've seen lately are...LILES / EATING OUT / TRUE LOVE /...
Does anyone have a film they recommend? Today I'm watching " TransAmerica" (which is really not a gay film but a trans gender flick) I saw a new one coming out entitled, THE MOSTLY UNFAMOUS SOCIAL LIFE OF ETHAN GREEN. Unfortunately it will never come to Alabama but when it comes out on DVD, I'll be one of the first in line to get it. :P
Just wondering if anybody else has MOVIEMADNESS or (Gay Movie Madness) :o

Wow david....25 in the past few weeks! That's a lot. I don't have very many gay movies, so you've probably seen these but here are the ones on my shelf...

Cliff... I have a copy of Angels In America. The film struck such a cord with me that I had to own a copy.
Believe it or not, BLockbuster on-Line has almost sixty or seventy films under the heading of gay/lesibian.
Being such an avid movie watcher I've seen so many films, sometimes I have to think "have I seen that?"
A film called Slutty Summer (written & directed by the main character in the movie) came as quite a surprise.
It sounds like a porno film but its far from it.
There are many others...some good and some absolutely terrible. Of course I can remember a time when Gay
movies always ended badly...were always depressing and sad. We've come a long way since the sixties and seventies.

for the below some are decidedly gay-themed, some have marginal gay themes in them (or some gay flavor to them)
Intelligent, "Real", Emotional: Looking For Mister Goodbar, Different For Girls, Priest, Beautiful Thing, Midnight Cowboy, Cruising, Summer of Sam, Boogie Nights
Fluff, Comedy: Zoolander, Trick, Maybe Maybe Not, Billys Hollywood Screen Kiss
Looking For Mister Goodbar is more about nightlife and fornication with some gay stuff. Absolutely superb movie that everyone should see.
Different For Girls is more about TS/TG but it has superb Brit-pop songs from the very early '80's (songs which didn't truly cross-over big-time to America. too British maybe?)
I'll only see Ethan Green if I can get a free ticket. It sounds interchangable with Billy's Hollywood Screen Kiss - y'know, good once to laugh but more than once? No way
Priest and Beautiful Thing are decidedly gay-themed
I've not seen Trick, Cruising, Midnight Cowboy. But I will someday

Maybe Maybe Not is hilarious

"Priest" is one of my favorite movies of all time.
The end makes me cry like a sissy-boy every damn time.

If I'm not mistaken, Ethan Green was a comic strip in the gay papers in the 9o's, no?
Let's see, Sordid Lives, Edward II, Salmonberries, and Wonderland (British 90s one, not the more recent one) come to mind, along with My Beautiful Laundrette.

Ethan Greene played at a local gay film festival but I couldn't go because I had to work. I love Ethan Greene the comic.
Gay movies I have enjoyed include Jeffrey, Bear Cub, The Adventures of Priscilla: Queen of the Desert, Hedwig and the Angry Inch. I still have not seen Brokeback Mountain. I recently rented Transamerica and thought it was pretty good.

The final scene in "Beautiful Thing" is so powerful. I can just imagine myself in the middle of that, with not a care in the world. And Cass Elliott serenading us, of course.
But then i'm pretty gruff on the outside, and oh-so-sensitive on the inside ;)

"Desert Hearts" is a love story about a teacher (female) who goes to Reno to divorce her husband, meets a woman who lives on the guest ranch where she stays and they fall in love. As the plot thickens and twists, you will have to see the film to find out if the teacher returns to the East Coast alone or with her new lover, stays in Reno or what because I never ruin a movie by telling the whole story. Have the best day

I used to live in fear of being Vanessa Redgrave's character in "If These Walls Could Talk II". But I have always wanted to say, "a jock, in a frock, on a rock" from "Pricilla, Queen of the Desert" Have the best day

The movie "Capote" wasn't gay themed but Truman Capote's life sure was. Worth seeing for the Oscar winning Performance and portrayl os T.C. as the not always so nice flamboyant Gay writer.
Some of my alltime fav's are 'Edge of seventeen, Get Real, and Party Monster. The Boys Life series of short film collections is pretty good and If you can locate it, there was a short film at this years Sundance Festival called 'Bug Crush' which was very weird and very Gay. For something completel different, try 'Swoon' set in the '30's about two Gay guys that murder a kid for fun ( based on a true story, and the basis for Hitchcocks movie Rope)
If youre into Oldies, track down one called 'Tea and Sympathy' ( 1958 I think) about a kid coming to terms with being Gay in the 1950's, unbelievable for the time it was made.

"Tea and Sympathy" was on the required reading list in my high school as was "Catcher in the Rye," My parents wondered why I read so many books instead of playing football like my brother. Have the best day

Also - if you find crying therapeutic, there are movies out there which aren't gay-themed but have HIV+ characters in them (or HIV+ is implied) e.g. Forrest Gump
The story of Jenny Gump makes me bawl every time ... I love Jenny Gump, even though she's fictional

If you can handle subtitles, 'Garcon Stupide' is interisting. another one from a couple of years ago is 'Food of Love' Ma Vie en Rose' is adorable, 'Bad Education' deserved an Oscar, and 'Animal Factory' is filled with unbelievable cameo's the best of which is Mickey Rourke as a prison drag Queen.... :o
