Prezista, Norvir, Truvada Regimen - some side effects?
« on: February 12, 2013, 08:27:55 am »
I just switched from Complera to this regimen of Prezista/Norvir/Truvada.  My doctor had me sort of switch off the former regimen by staying off it for a week while processing the new regimen.

After all of these side effects of anxiety from the previous regimen wore off, I started the new one which is no longer an NNRTI.  The first night I noticed some side effects of anxiety still and difficulty sleeping.  Are these potential side effects again, or does this just need to work its way into my system?

It will take like a week or two until your old medication (Ripivirine) completely leave your system. SO hang on there, be patient.

Most side effect that people have with Prezista is stomach problem, take it with food also helps as well.

Most side effect that people have with Prezista is stomach problem, take it with food also helps as well.

Both Prezista and Norvir have very clear labeling on the prescription bottle to take both with food. It doesn't matter how much food  (as in it need not be a full meal, etc.) so if someone is getting an upset tummy from taking it on an empty stomach it's their own damn fault for not reading the instructions.

But I agree that the side effects from Complera need to work their way longer term out of one's body, and it's clearly not anything from this new regimen.

Thanks.  It must be just some interaction between old and new regimes then.

 Hi  beentheredoneit   .

It is either the   Norvir or the Truvada  that keeps me awake .

I've  been on them since  2004  and I rarely  sleep well without a PILL .

I was on Reyetaz  and that caused horrid gastric issues to the point of

 being house - bound   :'(

I have  severe anxiety that I must take  Clonazapram  to control , I have gone

A few weeks with out a Clonazapram and it was hell  :-X

                                        Good luck to you ,

It's been 2 weeks and no change besides lowered anxiety.  Still feeling tired, down, groggy every time I take this regimen.

I seem to have tried every possibility only to again have these same side effects come back to haunt.  I don't know what else to try, but to ask the doctor for something to help me sleep and relax.

Have you tried switching what time of day you're taking your meds?

For example, if you're feeling tired and groggy immediately or soon after taking them, perhaps you should take them before you go to bed.

This Prezista in this combo needs to be taken with a little bit of food, but you don't have to eat a whole meal before going to bed. A light snack will suffice.

This combo isn't known for causing the issues you're experiencing, so maybe you need to give it a little more time. Two weeks isn't all that long - it can take up to four to six weeks for the body to adjust.

Something else you should consider - the problems you're experiencing are also warning signs of depression. Undiagnosed and untreated depression is very common amongst hiv positive individuals. Do you have access to therapy?

Depression is nothing to be ashamed about and asking for help with managing depression isn't a sign of weakness. On the contrary, it takes strength to reach out and ask for help. Please explore this aspect of your overall well-being.

I do take them before bed already.  I suppose I just need to give the regimen more time, as was suggested.

Funny story - I was at an all day model building event on Saturday and at around 18.00 Hrs (6 PM) I went to my back pack to get my P,N & T - there was a guy in front of me at the water cooler and when he saw the four pills in my hand he said, "I see you take the same heart medicince combo."

Considering he had forty years on me, I hope not, these four are enough.

I plan to ask my pharmacist abot the single 800mg  prezista.

I haven't had the groggy feeling, but I'm naturally hyper - the one time  drunkenly had meth at a party...ugh...not pretty. I can't count the number of houses I cleaned!

I would certainly ask about the 800 mg pill, they just gave it to me last time i filled the prescription, i didn't even have to ask.  I thought they had given me the wrong pill at first because they put all my pills in a prescription bottle versus the original pharmaceutical bottle.
