Does anyone here have a theory on how John Kerry won Knott County, Kentucky by 27 points but Obama lost it by 47?

Because John Kerry is not black.  The county has voted strongly democratic until BO came along.

There are actually more Dems in KY than Repubs.  We vote Dem for Governor.  I think we've had one repub governor in the last 40 years.  We voted for Carter once and Clinton twice.  We did vote for Bush over Gore, even though TN is a neighboring state.  But, TN also voted for Bush.

Given the Bush over Gore vote, many say Obama's race had nothing to do with it.  They say we liked Clinton, because he seemed like he could live in the trailer next door.  They say the same thing about Bush.  I know race is a big factor, though.  There are plenty of backward people here.  The Kansas book could have easily have been written about KY.

Next time you hear the lamestream media say that Obama and Democrats have a problem with the "white vote" keep in mind that this isn't really true. They have a problem with "the white Southern vote". If you're down to only 10-15% in Alabama and Mississippi it pulls down your national vote percentage.

Unfortunately this was the first time that exit polls weren't done in every state so the picture is incomplete, but I'd assume it's like that in other Deep South states.
