I think I was exposed!!
« on: January 03, 2012, 06:57:37 pm »
Couple months ago I had sex with a guy protected, midway he got up went to the bathroom came back and I asked what he was doing. He came in the condom and said he rinsed it out. We only had one condom that night. I didn't think much of it until a couple of days laters my vagina particularly the labia minora got extremely swollen and that became the night of many worries. I got a sore throat and flu like symptoms 4 weeks later which of course increased my worries, add that with parnoia and I became convinced I have it. I had a couple of dry coughs and diarrhea and what really got me scared to death was the guy I believe I was exposed to a couple weeks ago made a joke about taking off the condom and coming in me and then another later on about HIV. I re-enacted that night and believe i felt liquid dripping down my vagina and isn't sure if it was mines or his.
I am beyond freaked out and he is the type of guy who jokes about everything and can't get a serious response out of him. I read in the news of this guy who claimed to infect hundreds purposely and I wonder if this guy did the same thing to me and why. Whats worse, my boyfriend now who I had sex with 4 weeks later developed flu like symptoms and I'm petrified i passed it on to him. I'm still in the window period so I can't get tested yet. Question for the ladies, when you got infected did your labia minora(inner lips) got incredibly swollen? I know symptoms alone can't tell you anything but I just want to hear anything at this point.
I live in an ignorant community and my family are not the type of people to be supportive. In fact if im positive I would be shunned also I'm suppose to be a virgin. My worse fear is infecting my boyfriend and the stigma more then the virus. Please give me any tips! Thanks

First of all, with your current boyfriend you two should be using condoms everytime you have vaginal or anal intercourse. You should be following that routine with anyone you are with until if and when you decide to be in a securely monogamous relationship in which both partners have reliable tested negative together. Otherwise condoms are a must.

As for the incident you are concerned about, it is not really clear whether you had unprotected intercourse or it's just a fear you are having based on unclear circumstances. To remove any doubts I suggest you get tested at 3 months after the last time you have had unprotected intercourse to confirm your negative status.

There is nothing HIV-specific about any symptoms you are reporting. If symptoms persist you should discuss them with your doctor.
