Hello,

I am wondering if you could tell me if I was at risk of being infected with HIV.

I am a 23 year old gay virgin, and a couple of weeks ago I had an encounter with a male that I am pretty sure is HIV positive. He is very sexually active and does not wear condoms. (On a side note: I discovered after the event that he had skin "knots" all over his body. Is this representative of an HIV infection, or is it something completely different?)

Anyway, we proceeded to make out for a while, and he gave me a blow job for literally 30 seconds, or maybe a minute at the most.

He also tried to finger me, but I am pretty sure he was not able to get his fingers fully into me, mostly due to the fact that I am very squeamish in my anus area and I am not able to relax my muscles to let anything in.

His continual trying did make my anus sore. (He was rough and there was no lube).

There was no anal penetrative sex (I'm pretty sure that I would have  known if a non-lubricated penis was being put into my anus.)

We mutually masturbated until he came on the skin between my scrotum and my anus. I had gotten a cut in the area from shaving a couple of hours before the event. I read that your body creates a barrier against pathogens fairly quickly after a cut happens, is this true? Am I worrying needlessly?

I may have used some of his semen as lubricant for my own masturbation.

My concerns:
1. Could the semen on my skin have travelled onto the 2-hour old cut and allowed the virus to enter my body?
2. Could the semen have travelled near my (sore) anus and allowed the virus to enter my body?
3. Could I have gotten an infection by using his semen as lube?

Sorry if I am asking the same questions, but I have been really stressed from the event, and I need reassurance so that I can get on with my life.

None of the activities you describe in any way present a risk for HIV.

HIv is very fragile, and MUST be injected into the body in order to infect. You do NOT get it from being sucked, from fingering, from semen on a cut, from any sort of traveling semen, or from using semen as lube.

HIV, in gay male sex, is spread through:

Unprotected Penetrative anal sex.

...and as long as the insertive partner in anal sex uses a condom every time without exception, you will be well protected against HIV transmission. It really is that simple.
