Had unprotected sex with HIV+ bottom
« on: March 26, 2015, 10:09:54 am »
I recently had unprotected sex 4 times with an HIV+ bottom. He said he didn't know he was positive until 1 1/2 weeks after sex. I know barebacking isn't a smart thing to do, I was plainly stupid. I thought because he was a nurse that he tested himself regularly. I know that was a bad assumption to make.

Anyway immediately I went to the hospital (keep in mind it was only 1 1/2 weeks since exposure), I lied to get PEP medicine. Even though it says that isn't effect until after 72 hours. I see online it says that PEP after 72 hours won't help. But articles never say why or if there is even a small chance?

I had a test at 2 weeks (last Monday) and it was negative. I also did a PCR test and will get those results tomorrow. I know it's early for testing.

I'm super paranoid. I guess I'm looking for more anecdotal evidence. I've already read almost every article available online. The "average time" and "calculating is hard" articles. And "you shouldn't have done that."  So I'm not seeking medical advice, I'm seeking people's stories.

Has anybody remained negative after having more than one exposure to an HIV positive bottom as an insertive top?

Has anybody done an antigen/antibody test two weeks after exposure? Was it is false negative? Or did you test positive?

Has anybody heard of anyone taking PEP longer than 72 hours after exposure? If so, tell me the story.

I understand these are case examples and not going to be my outcome. I just want to hear stories because they can either provide me with comfort or help me prepare for the inevitable.

The best you can do is test at 6 weeks past any possible exposure and again at 3 months to confirm the results . PEP is not going to do a thing for so long after an exposure so I am advising you to tell your doctor the truth so that they can advise you on testing and the window period, PEP extends the window period to 6 weeks past pep and again at 3 months.

Here's what you need to know in order to avoid hiv infection:

You need to be using condoms for anal or vaginal intercourse, every time, no exceptions until such time as you are in a securely monogamous relationship where you have both tested for ALL sexually transmitted infections together.

To agree to have unprotected intercourse is to consent to the possibility of being infected with an STI.Sex without a condom lasts only a matter of minutes, but hiv is forever.

Have a look through the condom and lube links in my signature line so you can use condoms with confidence .

Anyone who is sexually active should be having a full sexual health care check-up, including but not limited to hiv testing, at least once a year and more often if unprotected intercourse occurs.

If you aren't already having regular, routine check-ups, now is the time to start. As long as you make sure condoms are being used for intercourse, you can fully expect your routine hiv tests to return with negative results.

Don't forget to always get checked for all the other sexually transmitted infections as well, because they are MUCH easier to transmit than hiv. Some of the other STIs can be present with no obvious symptoms, so the only way to know for sure is to test.

Use condoms for anal or vaginal intercourse, correctly and consistently, and you will avoid hiv infection. It really is that simple!

I noticed a continuing theme in this forum. Only the paranoid (aka not at risk) seem to get more than one response in the "Am I infected?" section. I thought this section was supposed to help people who are actually at risk? Or should I repost my questions in a different section?

My response was exactly what I didn't need. I was referred to two articles that I've already read this week. I've been reading non-stop for the last week. While I do appreciate this, that specifically wasn't what I was looking for. I wanted to hear other people's stories or anecdotes. Yes, I have anxiety. Yes, I have to reap what I sow. I'm really scared. I just want to hear from other people.

You are only allowed to post in this one thread so only post in this one thread no matter how long between visits or the subject matter . You can find this thread by going to your profile and selecting show own post and it will take you here . It helps us to help you when you keep all your thoughts or questions in one thread and it helps other readers to follow the discussion. Additional threads will be merged.

I gave you the facts and that is all we can do . Stop having unprotected sex or get used to the idea that the best answer we can give is to test if you had a risk . We offer assessments and give out information on testing and PEP/PrEP and it’s not meant to be a discussion forum . The rest of the forum is for people living with HIV and we offer this as a public service .

Only moderators and authorized people can post in this thread … you can read the posting guide here . http://forums.poz.com/index.php?topic=220.0
