2014 Where Are We
« on: June 15, 2014, 12:03:07 am »
Hey there,

So new guy here and just wondering in 2014 where are we.

There is so much conflicting information out there.  Some say we are close to a vaccine and or a cure and others say we aren't.

Some say with proper medication and timing we can live as long as others without this virus and some say that's just not true.

Where are we and what exactly in the upcoming year do we have to look forward to as some big developments and or things being released.

Look forward to hearing from the masters :)

Hi Liam . I moved your thread into the Am I Infected forum where you should post all of your concerns and questions, please only post in this one thread no matter how long between visits or the subject matter . You can find this thread by going to your profile and selecting show own post .

You indicated that you have not yet tested for HIV . If you think you had a risk we would be happy to assess and advise if you wish . What was your risk and please be specific .

Jeff my post wasn't so much concerned with if I was infected or not.  The blood test will show that.

My post was directed to the situation of what people with hiv have to face on a day to day (what kind of medicatins, how many, etc.) the day to day routine of it all.

It was also asking what the actual facts of the situation where (Life expectancy, developments in the field)

I think you mis-characterized the intent of my post.

Thanks for the clarification, Liam. We generally not to get into all of those details until if and when someone has actually tested positive. I will just say in a general way that testing poz these days is quite different from back when. It's not a walk in the park but it can be manageable and there is a lot of seasoned help and experience here to help a newbie along the way.

Meantime we're hoping you test negative.

Best,

andy

Thanks Andy.  I appreciate that :)

I still think there is something positive though about talking about the overall themes.

These things are nice to read for someone looking for something past the sensationalist media reports to actual lived experience, etc.  I think it makes the transition easier to know in plain terms what are the things that your gonna be facing and dealing with :)

And I hope I test negative too, though I'm prepared for a life where I may be positive.  Thanks to brave people that have been open about their struggle and the researchers that have made it so it's not such a brutal condition to have.

While there may be benefits talking about the state of HIV today, a forum that assess HIV risks is not the place to have that discussion.  Our resources are finite and everyone here is a volunteer, so our time must be spent doing the job we have chosen.

If you want to learn about HIV in the 21st century, just read through the forums.

Hi Liam . I removed your post from off topic . Its a place to discuss anything other than HIV . I asked you once to post in this on tread only ... I did not misunderstand your intention, you misunderstand that this is a forum for HIV positive people and is not for people who are not living with the virus to come and quiz or chat with us .

We have the someone I care about forum for caretakers and family but we primarily a website for those who are already living with the virus . We also answer assessment questions in this forum on a volunteer basis to try and prevent infections and get people into treatment if need be . Thanks for your cooperation .
