I have it on good authority that both Lagerfeld and Slimane eat baby food to stay thin... obviously something for us all to ponder. I knew I was on to something 6 years ago when my 6 ft. frame shrunk down to 142 pounds and I was wearing a size 48. I have this entire "wasted wardrobe" (no pun intended) that I can't now wear and really think I should throw it all up on eBay.

Not altogether surprisingly, the trend has followed the fashion pack back to New York

Wasn’t it just a short time ago that the industry was up in arms about skinny models? Little over a year ago, in Spain, designers were commanded to choose models based on a healthy body mass index; physicians were installed at Italian casting calls; Diane von Furstenberg, the president of the Council of Fashion Designers of America, and Anna Wintour, the editor of Vogue, called a conference to ventilate the issue of unhealthy body imagery and eating disorders among models.

The models in question were women, and it’s safe to say that they remain as waiflike as ever. But something occurred while no one was looking. Somebody shrunk the men.

“Skinny, skinny, skinny,” said Dave Fothergill, a director of the agency of the moment, Red Model Management. “Everybody’s shrinking themselves.”

This was abundantly clear in the castings of models for New York shows by Duckie Brown, Thom Browne, Patrik Ervell, Robert Geller and Marc by Marc Jacobs, where models like Stas Svetlichnyy of Russia typified the new norm. Mr. Svetlichnyy’s top weight, he said last week, is about 145 pounds. He is 6 feet tall with a 28-inch waist.

“Designers like the skinny guy,” he said backstage last Friday at the Duckie Brown show. “It looks good in the clothes and that’s the main thing. That’s just the way it is now.”

I need to pretend to have ADHD at my psychiatrist visits so I can score monthly amounts of Adderall -- that's just like Tina-In-A-Bottle and would totally keep me svelte. I really want to get back down to a size 48 DESPERATELY.

I have about 3 months excess of that stuff which equals $9000... wish I could hock it in the hood. I wonder what would happen if I snorted it?

I am 5'9" and have been trying to put on some pounds for about 12 years. Last month, my weight increased to 150 lbs and I thought Oh, goody, goody, another 5 lbs to go to the "ideal weight" and all of a sudden, another 5 lbs were lost. It brings to mind something I have always thought... First, I'm too fat, then, I'm too thin... then I'm blond and then brunette, I have always wanted to look like Elizabeth Taylor, and now I do

I've plumped up a bit since getting over that nasty PCP back in Dec '06. I rebounded from 162lbs when I got out of the hospital to 182lbs now. At 5'10" and a pretty muscular build, I'm not really fat, but it's not where I'd like to be. My Dr. seems to think it's better to be a bit heavier than skinnier when dealing with HIV... maybe so, but it sure doesn't do much for appearances, existing wardrobes, etc.

Oh, and Philly, I have Adderall (and ADHD). After a while, it doesn't do a whole lot to help the weight thing. I can take one and still get the munchies right away. At first is kept the appetite away. It was like I could take or leave food. Lately, I've been having munchies from hell, especially at night. All this and I've not been partaking of anything that should induce munchies. It's still a lovely medication to have and does help me function day to day. It probably does keep my metabolism up a bit, which helps somewhat with the weight, I'm sure.

OMG, I need to go to the pharmacy to get some citrate of magnesium so I can drop some lbs. I'm about 15 lbs overweight (for my liking anyway). The problem is that stuff is so horrible to get down. I had to drink that a couple years ago for some medical test.

I do remember having that wasting and being a size 1 when it was tres chic and getting glares from other girls when I would clothes shop. Oh, how I mourn my old body. *sighs and eats another brownie*

What is citrate of magnesium? That's a new one for me. Does it really make one lose weight?

Wouldn't that possibly interfere with the proper absorption of HIV meds?

I wish I could lose weight. I could gain weight from a tube feeding. I could lose a 100lbs and still be larger than those guys. My doc does not know how I keep the weight on, neither do I.

Ugh, why would anyone want to look like a twig? When I was at my doctor's yesterday, it said my ideal weight should be 110 pounds. Uh, I gained 7 pounds and now weigh 171 but baby, I wear it well.

More cushion for th pushing, I say. I told my nurse if I weighed a buck ten that I would look like I was on crack.

Magnesium citrate taste like lemony super salty water usually. I'm sure they have other flavors but the flavor doesn't help to make it any more yummy.
It is Horrid! But it definitely will clean your colon out.
Castor oil also works but again, yuck!

I'm sure it does. I only had to do it when I had a colonoscopy, which the doctor wanted me to have because of family history of colon cancer. I wouldn't recommend drinking it for weight loss. It's absolutey grueling.

I agree 100%. I like to grab a handful of muscle or skin whenever I reach out and touch...a few extra pounds do not bother me at all on someone.

I'm not sure this is so new. I had a friend around the year 2000 (sounds like a Sci Fi film intro doesn't it?) who was a model on the small scale. What kept him from the big leagues (he always believed) was what he was told one year during a walk:

He was too American A&F and the new direction was European (aka slim without the definition) though I am sure at the time what is pictured above would have been considered too thin. Alas, that is the world of models and what the five minutes of fame - it snowballs to the point of exaggerated horrors.

I don't doubt the skinny/hung theory since there are people on here who have spent years gathering empirical data. Not being a size queen though I don't really care what they are packing. It is comforting to know that mother nature gave them something that you can hold on to.

I have always wanted to attend the Sally Struthers School of Whining but my parents wanted me to go to Modeling School because I can undress and dress really fast. I didn't learn that in Modeling School.
