Your Score:
17-20 Correct:
You are not only older than dirt, but obviously gifted with mind bloat. Now if you could only find your glasses.

12-16 Correct:
Not quite dirt yet, but your mind is definitely muddy.

0-11 Correct:
You are a sad excuse for a geezer or you are younger than springtime!

The Answers:
1.   b) On the floor, to the left of the clutch. Hand controls, popular in Europe, took till the late '60s to catch on.

2. b) To sprinkle clothes before ironing. Who had a steam iron?

3. c) Cold weather caused the milk to freeze and expand, popping the bottle top.

4. a) Blackjack Gum.

5. b) Special makeup was applied, followed by drawing a seam down the back of the leg with eyebrow pencil.

6. a) 1946 Studebaker.

7. c) Wax coke bottles containing super-sweet colored water.

8. a) Wax for your flat top (butch) haircut.

9. a) With clamps, tightened by a skate key, which you wore on a shoestring around your neck.

10. c) Eeny-meeny-miney-mo.

11. c) Polio. At the beginning of August, swimming pools were closed. Movies and other public gathering places were also closed to try to prevent spread of the disease.

12. b) Taxi. Better be ready by half-past eight!

13. c) Macaroni.

14. c) Hiding under your desk, and covering your head with your arms in an A-bomb drill.

15. a) Princess Summerfallwinterspring. She was another puppet.

16. a) Immediately sniffed the purple ink to get a high.

17. b) Put in a special stamp book, they could be traded for household items at the Green Stamp store.

18. c) Ammunition, and we'll all be free.

19. a) The Mills Brothers (not The Inkspots, as stated on this exam by other web sites and e-mails).

20. a) Tony Bennett, and he sounds just as good today. (Or bad, depending on your taste.)

Just because I can answer these questions does not make me either old nor a geezer.  I thought you could only be a geezer if you were past 70 and once you hit 80 or so you become older than dirt.  Actually, here's to all of us growing up to be really, really old geezers.

In regard to the "leg painting" during WW2....i remember it was a line up the back of the leg made with eyebrow pencil to look like a seam. Never heard of leg painting but it sounds hot.

Geeze, I got them all except for the Indian Princess one. I surprised myself by getting Studebaker correct - that was a semi-educated guesstimate.

I always got the job of licking the Green-stamps and putting them in the book. My mother always said she hoped it would glue my mouth shut and keep me quiet for a while. Just like sniffing mimeographed paper, it never worked. :D My mother told me about the leg-painting trick - I seem to remember something about using tea (or similar?) to stain the leg overall as well, to complete the illusion of a stocking. Used to hear about how her and her sister had to put a new piece of cardboard inside their shoes everynight as well, because of the holes. Got that one every year when my mother and I disagreed over the style of my new school shoes. ::) (you're lucky you're getting new school shoes... when I was your age blah blah blah)

Harumph, he says in typical geezer fashion!  ;)

I missed the Mills Brothers.

But I remember the wax bottles filled with sugar water, or whatever it was. We used to chew the wax and then cover our teeth with it.  I also remember the wax lips. They were fun too!

My aunt had the Studebaker. I wish I still did.

I love Blackjack gum. It was kind of wintergreen flavored.

I had skates that needed a key to tighten to my sneakers.

I remember the air raid sirens going off at 12:15 p.m. on either the first or second Tuesday of every month, at which time we did the duck and tuck exercise at school. It wouldn't do a damn bit of good had an A-bomb fallen, but it gave people a sense of security, I guess.

I always sniffed the mimeographed papers. Never got high, but loved the smell.

My pickup truck still has the dimmer switch on the floorboard. (Yep, its an oldie.)

Quick, pass me my cane and get outta my way. I'm heading to the casino! (LOL)

I'm with Bear, et al, on this one. Here's hoping every one of you enjoys geezerhood!

HUGS,

Mark
