It's Back
« on: October 08, 2008, 03:26:04 pm »
Got a call from my ID doctor telling me the Histo is back at 52% and I have to go back on meds. Testostrone level took a dive so they are increasing the doseage. All other tests were unchanged. That shit likes me for some unknown reason. It was nice not having to take those meds for 3 months.

Forgive my ignorance, what is "histo".  Sorry to hear about it anyway sounds like a drag.

(amended:  so i did a google search and this means Histoplasmosis?  For other newbies - a mycose present in 2-5% HIV+ and a  defining OI for AIDS diagnosis.  "The most common clinical findings include fever, hepatomegaly, splenomegaly, and generalized lymphadenopathy."

Sorry to hear that.

Rodney are you drinking water  out of the well again?  Just joking...

Man dude so sorry to hear this...  I remember it was a sucky experience for you before.  I hope they don't give you the same hassles  they gave you before with obtaining the proper meds you need to battle this.

   Sorry man :(

Histoplasmosis is a fungal disease of the lungs... generally caused by bird feces... its prevelant in the south... sporonox is generally taken for this fungal disease. I have several friends who contracted this from pigeon droppings... generally the immune system will knock it out on its own but, a weaken immune system needs help with anti-fungal drugs. Let us know how your doing...

Yeah it can bring it down to undectable, but once you are removed from it, it comes back. At least I don't have to go back on IV's.

Sorry to be naive. Was just wondering if any "whole-body" type attention might help keep such a mycose in check for the long term, along with the drugs necessary.  Supplements/herbs, or seeing a nutritionist, change of diet, etc. Or, in your experience, is it sink or swim with the drugs the only treatment.

I can't imagine taking herbs for any O.I.

Well i said "in addition" to the necessary drugs, not as replacement.  I was just wondering cause when I seroconverted this summer I was reading sites and info like Jon Kaiser's combining "natural and western" approach http://www.jonkaiser.com/ and all those convincing supplement factsheets at places like Catie http://www.catie.ca/

My ID poo-pooed all that and said basically eat healthy, be happy, exercise, etc, etc. and let him take care of the drugs when required.  (which was much sooner than anticipated, saving me a lot of pissed awayed wasted money on supplements, i guess).

Rapid, I wish you godspeed in meeting this challenge.
Best to you

I didn't even have to open this post to know what you were talking about Hon. What a crapper.
I guess the tiny silver lining is that it sounds like you are a bit ahead of it this time, instead of being so incredibly entrenched in it, like you were about this time a couple of years ago. You were a very sick little boy. Hope you have an easier time of it this go around. I'll be thinking of you. :-*

Ron,

I'm sorry to hear that you are having to go through this again.

Hopefully, the Noxafil will help repress it.  I've been on  Clotrimazole, metronidazole and fluconazole for anti-fungals ... never been on Noxafil ... hope it's easy to take.

It depends on how bad it gets before I can get it under control. If I can't get it undercontrol it gets real bad. I believe we caught it in time though.
