Bump under nipple?

I just noticed a few days ago that I have a raised bump under the edge of my right nipple. It feels a bit tender. Naturally I'm concerned and have been trying to do some research. The best thing I've come up with is Gynecomastia, which I guess occurs in men. I found it can be caused by hormone inbalances as well as medications. Specifically I have found HAART meds can cause this, namely Efavirenz. I have been on Atripla since March. Anyone else experience this? Does this sound correct? I guess I should go to the doc to make certain. Thoughts?

Hi TN,

Any breast ailment that women might suffer from, men can suffer from too and that includes breast cancer. Men's breasts are just like women's, they're just undeveloped in men.

Gynecomastia doesn't usually cause isolated bumps - it's more like both breasts start to develop as they would in a young woman. My bf has slight gynecomastia from Sustiva (Efavirenz) and he has no lumps, it's just fatty tissue. If you Google gynecomastia photos, you'll see what I mean. Excessive pot smoking in young men can also cause gynecomastia.

So yes, you really should have this bump looked at by a doctor.

It could be nothing to worry about, but you need to know one way or another. In the meantime (before you see a doc), try to keep from feeling it all the time - you could make it more sore that way and possibly create a problem where there actually isn't one. And by the way, from what I understand from women I've known, breast lumps caused by cancer usually don't hurt. You still need to get this checked out though, it could be something like a bit of an infected milk duct (seeing as it's so close to your nipple). Stranger things have happened!

u should always check out any bump on your body . coming from a guy that had breast cancer , please check

I had something similar, went to the doctor with the same concerns you have, and was happy to find out it was just an ingrown hair  :)
Definitely go to your doctor and have him take a look.  Good luck!
