I guess its working
« on: February 05, 2014, 10:40:23 am »
I saw my doctor yesterday, the usual semi-annual visit with labs.

The Cholestyramine I am taking seems to still be working.

My overall cholesterol is OK (189) and the LDL is (drum roll, please), 112.

The HDL is still lurking at 38, and triglycerides were a tad high at 197 (I have to confess, I was less than diligent and consumed more sweets and carbs than I should.)

So, the cholesterol med is working and no side effects. I can't complain about that.

Oh, the other stuff is OK too - CD4 1041, viral load <20.

He said I am in pretty good shape for someone who is in his latter 50s and who has been positive for close to 29 years (not until July, but who's counting.)

So, I am pretty happy.

HUGS,

Mark

Congrats on the good numbers Mark ! . You have really worked very hard to get there so you have earned every gain you made .

You have always been my inspiration to watch my lipids . I used to think little could be done about it but your updates convinced me otherwise .

My Doc Says the same on each visit. It would be nice if I could feel as good as I supposedly look  :)

Meanwhile I had my third session at the VA " MOVE" Clinic. The sessions are held for 1 hour on Tuesdays @ 11: 30 am. On this third visit yesterday, BMI,%body fat, and weight has dropped again. I have one more session to complete, next Tuesday, and then I move on to a 12 week session if I want to. ( I'm still thinking about that)

Diet, and exercise, elimination of certain foods completely, are the three things stressed in these sessions. It's about rethinking what you eat, and breaking old habits.

When my primary doc asked me if I wanted to do this I said "Of course" She also stated that I would most likely be the smallest one in these classes.  And she was right.

I came in fully clothed @ 176 lbs. These other guys are up there in the 250-300 pound plus weight group.

I am really hoping, that if I reach my desired weight, that the BP medication can cease, and the Statin can cease.  It sure would be nice.

Ed and I are getting a lot more walking in, and we're jogging more.  Not to bad for a couple of 62 year olds. :)

My desired goal in weight keeps dropping.  I now would love to be able to get to 160.

Time will tell. I got some work to do.  :P

Good luck to you Mark---Ray  8)
