Worried about oral hairy leukoplakia
« on: January 24, 2010, 11:20:36 pm »
    Hi everybody,
My risk was at a german sex house back in 2004.  I did use a condom, but I also caught herpes from the sex worker.  Since then I have been freaked out about having hiv due to many off and on syptoms.  Some were just in my head and others I'm not so sure about.  I have tested negative out to 6 years past the incident with multiple antibody tests  HIV 1 and 2, a pcr dna test, and NAT testing which is done after donating blood.  24 negative different tests.  Yes, I waited a full year later before donating and after negative tests.  My worry is of a group O and N strain possible infection and reading information about tests, they don't really detect these variant strains.  Is it possible I am infected with one of these and the tests not pick it up?  I know I should consider myself hiv negative, but the one symptom that I can't put out of my head is 6 months after the incident I started to develop a little flesh projection on the side of my tongue that was white.  For the last 5 years these hair like projections have gotten worse and cover pretty much the whole left side of my tongue.  It looks like the white hairy tongue I have since the incident but on the sides.  I read that hairy tongue only occurs on the top of the tongue.  It is a classic description of oral hairy luekoplakia.  Appearance changes daily, white hairlike projections, usually occuring on one side of the tongue, and doesn't scrape off.  Does this sound like oral hairy luekoplakia?  Does anybody else have hundreds of nodules and elongated taste bud looking projections on the side of their tongue?  What else could this be?  I need some help, PLEASE.  If this turns out to be oral hairy luekoplakia, then what does that mean?  I haven't had any recent possible exposures and my last negative test was a month ago.

This is an HIV specific forum and you don't have HIV.

You need to discuss what you are calling symptoms with your doctor. From what you have reported regarding testing and results, for sure you are HIV negative. Whatever is going on has nothing to do with HIV.

Stop practicing diagnosing yourself. It's bad for your health. See a doctor and find out what is really going on because it's not about HIV.
