Unprotected vaginal and worried.

Hello to all of the staff members out there. I have been reading quite a few post on here and decided to tell my story. About five weeks ago I had unprotected vaginal sex with a older female. I didn't think anything of it at the moment stupid me of course. Then around the second week my body just didn't feel the same all of a sudden I got fatigued and I was experiencing pain in my abdomen. So I contacted her to try to find out her status and she immediately got offended which now looking back I should have asked prior to our encounter. So me being nervous and frustrated I opted to have a pcr DNA and antibody test done at three weeks. Due to me experiencing symtoms. Anyhow test came back negative now I'm in the process of waiting one more week for my six week test. Our sexual encounter lasted about 20 minutes so Im guessing that put me at high risk. I just really need some advice she herself is married and older but obviously HIV doesn't discriminate. So how does my outcome look being that I had PCR DNA and antibody come back negative at three weeks. I know that three months is conclusive but just like everyone else who made a big mistake I just need a shoulder to lean on at the moment. Thanks in advance.

Vante, HIV is significantly harder to transmit from female to male than male to female. Yes, you were at risk but we're talking about a single incident. And with that negative PCR I expect you will continue to test negative at 6 weeks. You will still need to re-test at 3 months for a conclusive negative result, but a negative at 6 weeks means you will almost certainly continue to test negative.

None of your symptoms are in anyway HIV specific. If they continue you should discuss them with your doctor.

You can avoid this kind of risk in the future by always using a condom for vaginal and anal intercourse. No exceptions!

You are likely to come out of this situation ok.

Like Andy, I also expect you to continue to test negative.

You need to wise up and start using condoms. It's no use asking a person about their hiv status, because MANY people do not accurately know their hiv status, and some people may lie. You need to assume ANYONE you have anal or vaginal intercourse with is hiv positive and protect yourself accordingly by using condoms. And remember, it's not WHO you do, it's HOW you do it. Make sure you get those three letters in the correct order when you're having sex.

Here's what you need to know in order to avoid hiv infection:

You need to be using condoms for anal or vaginal intercourse, every time, no exceptions until such time as you are in a securely monogamous relationship where you have both tested for ALL sexually transmitted infections together.

To agree to have unprotected intercourse is to consent to the possibility of being infected with an STI. Sex without a condom lasts only a matter of minutes, but hiv is forever.

Have a look through the condom and lube links in my signature line so you can use condoms with confidence.

Anyone who is sexually active should be having a full sexual health care check-up, including but not limited to hiv testing, at least once a year and more often if unprotected intercourse occurs.

If you aren't already having regular, routine check-ups, now is the time to start. As long as you make sure condoms are being used for intercourse, you can fully expect your routine hiv tests to return with negative results.

Don't forget to always get checked for all the other sexually transmitted infections as well, because they are MUCH easier to transmit than hiv. Some of the other STIs can be present with no obvious symptoms, so the only way to know for sure is to test.

Use condoms for anal or vaginal intercourse, correctly and consistently, and you will avoid hiv infection. It really is that simple!

Thanks Ann I have learned a lot from my mistake and realized its just not worth the risk at all, Not now not ever. Waiting around with anxiety for one more week and then following up with the 3 month test is so stressful these are the things people need to know and this forum has really opened up my eyes a lot.

Hello guys I just wanted to post an update this morning. I went and got another test done post six weeks HIV antibody and the results were indeed negative so far so good. Still waiting for the 12 week mark though. Thanks for providing a shoulder for me to lean on guys it is greatly appreciated.

I fully expect you to continue testing negative - but you do need to confirm at the three month point. Keep busy with other things and the time will go faster than you might imagine.
