Isentress + Food
« on: August 27, 2010, 08:05:09 pm »
I recently started Isentress and my doctor said to take it with food because the fat in the food would make it stronger.   I usually eat a very low fat diet, so my question is, as long as I exercise a lot, does it make sense to add extra things like cream cheese and butter to my meals to get the most I possibly can out of the Isentress ?  I'm not worried about getting fat, but I am worried about getting the most out of Isentress.

Hello RD- My IDS only stressed that I take it 12hr apart. I take my am pill without food but take my evening one with food so I guess I am covered.
Peace

I have to be blunt here: your doctor is full of shit.

Either he made a mistake or you heard him wrong. Isentress can be taken with or without food, it does not matter either way.

Was anyone else that's reading this thread specifically told by their doc to take Isentress with food and that food made it stronger ?   Please comment one way or the other, thanks.

The Isentress dose is one 400mg tablet taken by mouth twice a day. It can be taken with or without food.

Rd, Isentress does not have to be taken with food, but some meds do.  Maybe your doctor was referring to another drug in your regimen.  What other HIV meds do you take?

Also for those meds that are taken with food, the reason is to improve absorption, not to make the drug stronger.  The label on the bottle will specify any food requirement.
It's a complex world

Hi BlueMoon, I'm also taking Ziagen, Epivir, and Viread along with Isentress.   I had been taking sustiva for many years but we just changed that out for Isentress.  Sustiva was causing me depression and memory problems, so we switched to Isentress.  After being off of Sustiva for only a week I feel like a different person.  My mind is almost back to being very clear and sharp again; senses seem sharper, and I feel like I'm more present and in the moment rather floating around in that slight high that Sustiva gives.

All four of these may be taken without food.  Your pharmacist is still full of shit.
