She will however become the spokesperson for Norvo Nordisk, a Diabetes medication.

She says everyone should practice moderation (because that worked so well for her)

The name Paula is dear to me as it is the name of one of my sisters.

Anyway, back to Ms. Dean.  Of course she will continue to prepare that "I'm gonna plump you up and put you in a coma!" food.  How else, among other things, to maintain her baby fat round cheeks?

Critics are saying she only went public, because she is being paid by a drug company.  She says she will give some of the profits to diabetes groups.  Now, as to what percentage, she didn't say.

Anthony Bourdain has called her, "the worst, most dangerous person to America."  Well, that seems a little much.  That's how people were raised to cook, especially in the South.  And, she says she never intended for people to eat that way every day.  If you go to most restaurants anywhere, most dishes are full of calories, fat, cholesterol, and sodium.  I'm not sure it's fair to single her out.  But, she does have a huge following.  We have one of her buffets at the Cesaers Casino across the river.

As for the donut-burger.... I hated it.  The donut completely over-powered the taste--all I could taste was the sweet.  Tried it at the fair.  Not good.

LMAO that recipe uses two cups of crushed potato chips as an ingredient. Two whole cups of greasy lays. WTF? What person in their right mind would use potato chips as an ingredient in a dinner dish let alone a fuggin casserole? Love the comments on the site ripping her for making such a crappy dish lol!

Where the heck do you get that she isn't controling her condition?  One can cook food that they can't/should not eat.
While I am not a fan of Paula's Dean cooking, I simply don't get the glee and joy folks are having over her health.

I'm a diabetic and it gets tiresome when people I know try and tell me what I can eat . Its true that diabetics have to limit some food and choices but most things including desert can be enjoyed in moderation . My sister in law took a slice of pecan pie out of my hand once in front of everyone at a holiday meal and made a big deal out of it when I know she doesn't know squat about diabetes .

I do not like Paula Deans recipes but being a diabetic and a famous cook are two totally different issues and I can not see why people are making a big deal out of this , its like telling someone with HIV they need to abstain from sex .

obviously you have never really visited any of the Southern states in America - where crushed chips are always the perfect topping ingredient for any breakfast, lunch, or supper casserole. It's the best way to use up that last cup of crushed chip pieces that are in the bottom of the big family sized bag. ;) :D

Totally agree, Jg, and I also sympathize.  (You know I'm diabetic also) Luckily most people who I hang with anymore don't say anything about my food choices.  I think, though, that most people who aren't familiar with diabetes hold onto that old thinking of "absolutely NO sugar."  When I became diabetic, my brother (who is also diabetic) told me about being able to eat a small piece of cake, for example, after a carb controlled meal.

I did not work on controlling my diabetes for the first few years after I was diagnosed, but it's in pretty good shape now.  And I always eat some chocolate before bed.  Last night I ate a Cadbury egg, and my sugar was 85 this morning.  So there is room for sweets.

I've tried one of Paula Dean's recipes, for fried chicken, but it's because I saw it in a magazine; I don't watch her shows on t.v.   I have no idea what she's going to be doing from here on out, but I'm sure she'll continue to make tons of money whatever it is.  Maybe interviews on daytime talk t.v. about her condition?  I can see that happening.
I've never killed anyone, but I frequently get satisfaction reading the obituary notices.-Clarence Darrow

Just because Paula isn't going to change the way she cooks has nothing to do with the way she may start to eat. My father had diabetes and he never ate the same way we did. He made food for us and then he prepared his menu. I don't cook with salt for myself but I will for others.

I am not a fan of Paula Deen, but then again, I am not a fan of southern cooking either.

I don't worry so much about Paula's diabetes, it's her cholesterol that I wonder about. If she eats the way she cooks, we could probably stick a needle in her arm and strike oil.

But she is not alone. Emeril Lugazzi (last name spelling is not right, I think) and Graham Kerr, the guy who used to do the show Galloping Gourmet and who I adored, also had run ins with their doctors thanks to their wicked diets.

To his credit, Kerr completely altered his show and his recipes, to keep them delicious yet not stroke inducing.

I think Emerill may be doing the same, but I am not sure.

I think Paula may well adjust some of her recipes and tone down some of the gratuitous lard she includes, or not. We'll just have to wait and see.

HUGS,

Mark

I am surprised I never heard mention of her outrageous affection towards one son and not the other.  She'll have both sons on the show, and the tall one gets all the attention.  Mean while the short one always does his recipes off in the corner by himself.  I get the impression she embarassed of the little guy.  He looks to be from a different father too.  That will usually do it though, especially down South.

Paula reminded me of a republican when asked about her contract with the diabetes med maker.  She said, "We all have to make a living."  I actually enjoy her, but please.  She's already making so much money from shows, books, restaurants, cookware, etc.  If she wants to team with the company, great.  Don't say it's because you need to make a living.

I'd actually never watched her before, except a brief appearance on Top Chef.

My mother has a thick, Southern accent and I was raised on home cooking, but not as obscene as what I read PD makes. And once I moved away I definitely didn't cook  that way -- I barely use any butter when I cook at all.

The point of "rich" cooking is that you use it when you have dinner guests, not for everyday. Everyday cooking at least for me is wholesome, but kind of bland -- not much oil and hardly any salt.

So, by your logic, at what point do people have to stop working?  At what point have they "made enough money" and shouldn't work further.  I see nothing wrong with saying she is doing it to make a living.....  I know I'm about to be compared with Republicans, but your comment smacks of jealousy.
For all we know Miss Dean may be donating millions to organizations that need it -- then again, maybe she isn't -- at the end of the day, it doesn't matter and is none of our business what she wants to do.

I actually saw a commercial the other day where Zaxby's has sliced and fried dill pickles.  Let me be the first to admit that I do partake of less than healthy fare at times but no way would I ever eat a fried pickle.... and for the record have never eaten anything from Zaxby's.

Well yeah, Paula liked to talk about moderation too -- but I guess some people's idea of moderation with such foods is that instead of eating it everyday they eat it every other day. This stuff is the kind of food you should maybe limit to once a month.

Conversely, Miss P just had lunch at this place: http://www.chhayacafe.com/

I had a white cheddar grilled cheese on country white and strawberry and arugula salad with vinaigrette. And a pour over Chemex brewed coffee from Bali. Oh, and the place was crawling with hipsters... never seen it so crowded. It used to be so quiet it was like my own secret place.

My father was pretty apolitical as I grew up, but as a retired police officer, he is a HUGE union advocate, so I'd say you are reading this one wrong.  In fact, given my last political conversation with him, I'd say I'm to the right of his positions.
I would describe myself as left of middle on the political spectrum -- have voted Repub in the past -- but Northeast Repub, not the type like I have to deal with down here in Virginia -- having Cantor as my rep is a source of shame and frustration.
I did grow up dirt poor (parents divorced when I was young and mom had 4 boys to feed and little money to do so) -- have climbed up the ladder a bit, so I do have little patience for those who think other's success is somehow a bad thing.  I don't buy into all the right's talk that lower taxes will create jobs -- I am for higher taxes so that those in need can get help.

How in the hell did we go from Miss Paula Dean's down home southern cooking to politics, now I'm really confused, as always  :o

I actually saw a commercial the other day where Zaxby's has sliced and fried dill pickles.  Let me be the first to admit that I do partake of less than healthy fare at times but no way would I ever eat a fried pickle.... and for the record have never eaten anything from Zaxby's.

Here is their little FB page:

Paula's cooking can be a bit over the top.  The lesson learned should be moderation is a must with any indulgence.

How on Earth have you never heard of Fried Dill Pickles before?  It's literally an appetizer in every restaurant down here.
