TETANUS, DIPHTHERIA AND POLIO BOOSTER IMMUNISATION

Hiya all, I recently received a letter from my doctor telling me that I'm due for the above immunisations and was just wandering if it is advisable to go ahead with them and if their are any interactions with my status and my meds. I'm in Atripla - any help guys and gals?

I had my tetanus and Diphtheria shots just a few months ago.  It's safe to get them.  I never had the polio booster. ( or if I did it was a while back.)

UK,

Make sure that the polio vaccine you're given is the Inactivated Polio Vaccine (IPV) or Salk vax. It's injected. The Oral Polio Vaccine (aka Sabin vax) is a no-no as it contains live (albeit attenuated) virus.

I was recently reading a question to Dr. Young at thebody.  I thought the yellow fever vaccine was always considered a no-no for people with HIV.  He was saying there are studies saying it is okay in HIVers with CD4s greater than 200 for several months.  He did mention HIVers on therapy.  This left me wondering if it would not be recommended for those with high CD4s, but not on therapy.

I've also wondered about the MMR vaccine.  My doc said I should be protected from getting it as a child.  I know there have been some cases due to parents afraid to vaccinate their children believing they cause autism.

As long as you are not immuno suppressed in some form you should be able to take any sort of immunization including those with live virus it is literally only those of us with AIDS that it is contra indicated in.

I know for my pre-employment physical they wanted me to get an MMR (as one of my titers showed that one was not active any longer)  I had the boosters done in 1985 when I was in the military.  But, my ID doc said it was contraindicated for me (even with cd4 of around 470) at that time.  She provided a letter and that was sufficient for the pre-employ exam.

MMR contains active measles, mumps and rubella viruses. They've been attenuated (weakened) so they won't cause disease but pumping active virus into immunocompromised folks is a Bad Idea.

The prudent fiver always checks with her HIV specialist before being vaccinated.
