Chest Pain
« on: March 22, 2007, 02:16:19 pm »
Hello,

I just wanted to post an update on my previous post "Not Bouncing Back After Exertion".  I was experiencing some fatigue and chest pain that I assumed was muscular after a few days of really long hours with little sleep.

I Went to the Dr. Monday and got a testosterone injection which seems to have taken care of the fatigue.  The pain in my chest is on the left side sort of in the middle between sternum and side.  It hurts when I move and breathe, got a little better for a few days, now is seemingly getting worse.  The Dr. said my lungs are clear.  I'm only coughing a little bit because at times I have a little phlegm, and no fever.  If it's a muscular pain I can't imagine what I've been doing to irritate it--all I did was play the oboe--honest!  life in the fast lane.

Is there a chance it could be PCP?  From my reading I know that PCP isn't usually associated with pain and is found in both lungs rather than just one.  Also, my T cells have been in the upper 400's to low 500's.  Could my T-cells have dipped down when I felt my resisance so low?  I'm also not under any stress or depressed.

Are there any similar experiences to this?  Does that sound like early PCP or TB?

Thanks,

brother joe
If there's a cure I hope I can have all the leftover Sustiva.

I don't know that I can answer your question, but I will share with you that I came up with an exquisitely painful case of pleurisy(pleuritis) after a minor cold a couple of years ago.  The sac that surrounds your lungs, became really pissed off at me, and caused excruciating pain for about five-six months because of the coughing/ insufficient fluid intake during the cold in question.

There could be multiple reasons for your chest discomfort, and you should probably see a physician.

That said, it could be cardiac, or even GI related. Please go and have someone check into this, as it could be quite serious, or something easily remedied.

I wish you the best, and will be thinking of you.

Thank you Lisa,  I'm really not afraid, just curious.  If it were something serious it would just be such a bad time (if there is ever a good time).  I think if it were cardiac related I'd surely be dead by now--after 2 weeks.

If you had a chest Xray and it looked good it is probably not PCP or TB.  You could get a CT scan to be sure, but I am not sure a doctor would order that without probable cause.  Something that happened to me, I had cold and was taking a lot of advil cold and sinus and tylenol deep chest cold.  I over dosed and it caused my spleen and liver to become inflamed.  My doc was pissed, but a few days of not taking any of that and everything returned to normal.....note to self, follow dosing instructions.
The difference between an overnight and a layover is luck!

Hi Joe!

I had the same problem about 5 weeks ago. My doc associated it with coughing and a cold I had, i stopped taking my zytec and singulair and he gave me a Rx for Tussisex or somthing like that and it cleared it up quick. At first I thought it was panic attacks but I think it was related to the cold/cogh i had. My cd-4 count is also in the low 500s and i'm on atripla. I too had chest x-ray, blood tests and a ct scan done all of which came back A OK. But I feel ya on that pain thing. If I moved too fast or went to bendover to pick something up it felt like someone was stabbing me in my sternum. Don't sweat the TB or PCP thing, i was freaking about that too but tests came back negative.

Thanks for your replies guys!

I guess I didn't clariefy that I haven't had a chest X-ray yet.  the Dr. just listened.  He suggested I take 800 mg of motrin bid to see if that helps for a couple of days, then we'll schedule an X-ray. It has helped but the pain is still there so far.
