needles and pins
« on: June 30, 2007, 05:38:26 am »
For a month, and not every day, I feel this discomfort (it's not really pain) where my back goes over to my neck. It's like very distinct needlepricks, a lot at a time, At the same spot I have some fatty deposit, so I wonder if it's got to do something with neuropathy and lipo.
I ask it here because my doctor has a tendency to say I'm fine at every  question I ask.
(I understand that, my cd4 numbers are good, and I have access to a lot of care in a country - Thailand- where this is not universal.)
Has anyone else got experience with this? Thanks for your feed back  :-*

"said my shoes were too tight"..quote .fierce

It could in fact be that wearing a different kind of shoe will help.  My partners doctor recommended a special shoe made by "SAS" shoes.  They are made for people who have to be on their feet a lot  (like nurses) I believe.  Now that is the only shoe he will wear.  The" pins and needles" are very real.  But it seems that treatment with drugs alone is not the answer.....you also have to deal with the shoe style.

In my experience neuropathy is confined to one's limbs, not the back/neck area that the original poster has described in this thread.  Hence why the actual name is "Peripheral Neuropathy."  It's generally associated with the NRTI class of HIV medications.

Doctors that tell hiv patients that the needles and pin feeling is only in your head should lose their medical license.  ::)

From day one when my neuropathy began, both of my doctors knew right off the bat that it was neuropathy. It's a known fact that most people who suffer from neuropathy can't wear socks and most shoes, especially tenni shoes.

I can recall many episodes of neuropathy that hurt so bad, I cried because it felt like I was walking on broken glass barefooted, then soaking my feet in a tub of rubbing alcohol. Although, my neuropathy has gotten better as far as pain levels, it has moved from my feet up both legs above my kneecap. When it strikes, it does hurt, no denying that one bit. I usually take up to 3- 5 pills of 10/235 hydrocodone for pain depending how bad it gets.  :(
