Title: Tingly Symptoms, very worried!
Post by: NewMember3 on August 26, 2014, 11:45:36 am
I'm a male, 4 weeks ago I met up with a man on the internet, all I conducted was touching his penis and licking the shaft very briefly, I think I may have licked the tip and tasted something sour, most likely his pre cum. He didn't ejaculate as we got interrupted and left. When I went home I immediately used mouthwash.

3/4 days later I developed a flu, sore dry throat, night sweats, fatigue and tingling on my body, tingling mainly on hands and feet. All these symptoms happened within a week the incident. Day 6 I took a full lab test for HIV and other STDs - tested negative. I've read about the window period and I'm going to take another test next week, roughly 35 days after exposure.

After 4 weeks of the incident I'm still getting tingly pains on my joints, mainly hands and feet, sometimes feel dizzy. I've never had these tingles before, sometimes the muscles twitch and painful. I'm very worried. What is the chance I caught HIV and how reliable are tests at 4/5 weeks after exposure?

You have not had even the slightest risk for HIV so you can put any questions you have about this specific incident to rest . HIV is transmitted from unprotected anal and vaginal sex so ... nothing to worry about here .

Here's what you need to know in order to avoid hiv infection:

You need to be using condoms for anal or vaginal intercourse, every time, no exceptions until such time as you are in a securely monogamous relationship where you have both tested for ALL sexually transmitted infections together.

To agree to have unprotected intercourse is to consent to the possibility of being infected with an STI.Sex without a condom lasts only a matter of minutes, but hiv is forever.

Have a look through the condom and lube links in my signature line so you can use condoms with confidence.

Although you did not have a risk and do not need to test for this specific incident , anyone who is sexually active should be having a full sexual health care check-up, including but not limited to hiv testing, at least once a year and more often if unprotected intercourse occurs.

If you aren't already having regular, routine check-ups, now is the time to start. As long as you make sure condoms are being used for intercourse, you can fully expect your routine hiv tests to return with negative results.

Don't forget to always get checked for all the other sexually transmitted infections as well, because they are MUCH easier to transmit than hiv. Some of the other STIs can be present with no obvious symptoms, so the only way to know for sure is to test.

Use condoms for anal or vaginal intercourse, correctly and consistently, and you will avoid hiv infection. It really is that simple!

I've looked up online that hiv can cause tingles and joint pains, is this a coincidence this happened few days after the incident and still doing do after 4 weeks.

Are you sure that there is no chance of infection?

Sorry to be a nuisance, I'm very scared and worried about these numbness and tingles. Will a test at 5 weeks rule it out or would I need another test at 90 days to be certain?

I'm certain you did not have risk . The answer will not change, nothing you did was a risk for HIV, period .

Just a quick update, I took another blood lab test after 5 weeks of exposure, results came back negative.

The only worry I have now, I've still got these muscle twitches and pains on my body. I've never had these symptoms before the incident, never. The clinic also ruled out other sexual transmitted diseases. It can't be a coincidence it happened two days after the incident.

Sorry to be a nuisance, but do you think one more test at 90 days rule out HIV?

Whatever symptoms you are experiencing have nothing to do with HIV, because you never had a risk.
