Forget the DOMA stuff, this is really big news.  Obama names openly gay man to be the White House Social Secretary.

I saw this on NBC Nightly News and I choked on the mint I was sucking on.  They showed his pic and told how he was the first man to hold that position.  I began to wonder whether he may be gay when they said he was.  I think things like these are huge--even if it doesn't seem to be.  Well, I guess a gay Secretary of Defense or State would be huge, so I guess this is big..I'll say big.  I know many who believe Secretary Rice is gay.  There is no proof of that.

I know many believe Lincoln was gay or bi.  I think it can be said with good accuracy that President Buchanan was gay.  He lived with the same man, William Rufus King for 16 years.  King would go on to become Vice President under President Pierce.  I remember reading that even at that time, people were talking.  I think Andrew Jackson called them Aunt Fancy or Nancy--something like that.  I would have to read it again.  The title First Lady was invented for his niece who did hosting duties.  Its just too bad he is seen as one of the worst presidents, but he deserves most of that on his views towards slavery.  I think Dubbya bumped him up, though.  From Buchanan's own letters, I think he talked about seeking out men for companionship and could get a wife to take care of him without any romance.

If all this is true, which is seems to be, we've had a gay president and a gay vice president.  Lincoln had a very close male friend and they often slept in the same bed.  Historians say men often shared beds back then, however.  There are many letters between the two that sound like love letters--just more coded.  Lincoln also liked to hang out and bunk with soldiers.  But, that doesn't necessarily mean anything.  Not sure about Lincoln, but safe to say Buchanan was very likely gay.

What a gay dream job.
Its great that finally a gay guy gets to do it!

I guess he's very professional and discrete and reserved on the job.

It would be fun to know if he gets to camp it up and give queeny shade, and with whom, about etiquette and protocol.  (Just in private with his friends? With Michelle. With the Mom?

I see a mixture of Emily Post and Roger Dupre from The Producers.  We got to get some chorus girls at the  White House state dinners, I think. And feathers. And Mitzi Gaynor red white and blue spangles. And drum and bugle corps in tight stretchy white marching trousers.  And.

Emily Post:

(or would that be Chief of Protocol, only?)

Anyway, party planner extraordinaire:

Handsome guy and no doubt able to the job.  He also looks like he means business.  I bet when he gives orders to staff to quarter fold top side the egg shell napkins and position those placecards lined at front top plate--blue border up--everyone better get on the damn skippy!  ;)

Oh excuse me, it's Roger Debris, not Dupree.

Just to be perfectly accurate, it's actually Roger De Bris.
