Hi guys i'm really sorry to do this as (judging by the other posts in this forum) you have heard this story thousands of times but i need to ask. Exactly one week ago I had protected sex with a sex worker in Prague while on a stag weekend. It is something I will eternally regret. I remember the condom was on for the duration of the sex and the worker both applied and removed the condom. However the minute I left, HIV was in the back of my mind, and the day I got back I instantly checked the net for potential symptoms. I can't stop feeling my lymph nodes and my left testicle has definately acquired a dull ache, if no swelling at this point. I am also continually swallowing to see if my throat is sore.

I have treated for OCD by prescriptional and behavioral therapy in the past, and a part of me assumes that all this is merely my head again playing tricks on me. Unfortunately, my fear and paranoia are, for the moment, winning this battle.

I have read the welcome forum and other posts the moderators have made, and they all insist there is minimal risk of infection from protected sex. However i have remembered in the last couple of days that in the couple of weeks prior to the infection i had 2 spots on my penis which had scabbed over and occasionally bled. These had healed by the time (the new skin was freshly grown over), but I'm worried that the condom may have been pulled over their location on my penis (about the middle) and the infection could have gotten in through there.

I just want to say thanks to the people who run this site for offering educated corresponence and advice. It has been the only bright spot in a week where I have been able to share nothing with anyone. I'm getting tested for other STDs on Monday, and will be sure to book an HIV test for 13 weeks time. Thanks again,

Danny

Danny,

You didn't have a risk. Condoms have been proven to prevent hiv infection and scabs on your penis don't change that fact.

While you don't need to test over this specific incident, I would expect any routine testing you do to return with negative results.

Use condoms for anal or vaginal intercourse, correctly and consistently, and you will avoid hiv infection. It really is that simple. Have a look through the three condom and lube links in my signature line so you can use them with confidence.

HIV is certainly character-building. It's made me see all of the shallow things we cling to, like ego and vanity. Of course, I'd rather have a few more T-cells and a little less character. Randy Shilts
