returning unwanted mail

my good friend carol turned me on to this idea (god, i must be getting old). once a month or so i take all the unwanted bullshit mail i get and just return it all. i dont do it for all of the credit card offers cause i'm a little skittish about putting it back in the mail. instead of righting rts on the cc spam mail i'll open them up, stuff them with the applications and send them back to corporate america empty.

i should be ashamed...but those bastards don't seem to be

Good lord -- just shred the shit.  Why make it about the "evil corporations" -- if all this unwanted mail didn't exist, the USPS would probably be charging $2.00 for you mail anything.  If you don't want to get credit card applications, you can list yourself with some organization (I forget the name, but it usually is listed on the letters you get with the applications).  Probably take you much less effort to do that once.

I do what you do on an as-they-arrive basis.

However, on the application, I request they remove my name from their list.

Over time, I've gotten to the point where I receive less of this waste paper.

These work pretty good, not for companies you already do business with, though. AmEx was sending me a fucking magnet every 10 days until I got on the first list.

Anyone know how to stop unwanted phone calls? Even though my number is unlisted, I've ended up on someone's list, probably due to my daughter accidentally not checking the box for stopping unsolicited contact. The calls usually start with a voice-activated computerised message - "Hi there..." It's really annoying and nine times out of ten, the calls come when I'm just getting out of the shower or on the bog.

Here in the US we have the do not call list - you register your number on it and tele-marketers are not able to call for, I believe 5 years.  It even works for  cell phones.  I don't know if you have something like this in the UK.

There is a phone number blocking device that I bought years ago. It works great and I can block phone numbers without having my phone ring. It was a bit pricey but worth my sanity. It's called interceptor and the website is http://www.interceptorid.com.

There are some regular phones that will allow you to block phone numbers. Verizon also has an "anonymous phone rejection" option that blocks fake phone numbers which most telemarketers use.

I bought my interceptor id after I got a new phone number. The phone co. recycles phone numbers and the person that had my # before me never paid his bills. I was receiving 6-7 debt collector calls every day at all hours...even at 2am!  Of course, when I picked up and told them I was not the person they were trying to reach, they never believed me. Now all is quiet and I only get the calls I want to receive!
