Title: HIV /HBV and Money
Post by: matt1361 on July 28, 2006, 02:09:12 pm
My partner has chronic hep b and hiv.  So far, no treatment has been recommended for the hiv; however, the doctor has prescribed Pegasys (interferon) for the hep b for 48 weeks, one injection per week.  Unfortunately, his insurance does not cover this.  The drug costs about 2000 dollars a month, and Roche claims he makes too much money to receive assistance from them.

He is left to choose not taking the therapy encouraged by his doc.  We are rather new to this, and it seems breathtakingly stunning that the US forces us to base medical decisions on finances alone.

Does anyone know of any organization that can assist?  Thanks for reading.

You didn't mention what state he lives in.
