Title: electoral vote predictions 2012
Post by: mitch777 on October 26, 2012, 05:28:46 pm
I hope everyone participates. Not having done a poll before, I am not really sure the rules too well and how this site works when it comes to posting a poll.

My hope is that the information gathered will show that we HIV+ people have some kind of insight in what matters in politics and policy.
The results will only show AFTER someone has voted.

Thanks!

OK, I revised my poll questions.
(Originally thought the poll could be more complex)
It' a GO now again for the poll.
Sorry for the confusion. (I get confused easy these days.) :)

Is this an official poll? will the results be on CNN?

You do realize you are polling a mostly liberal group here..

lol wumpy!

and YES this is the final draft, official poll, and YES it will be on cnn, OR msnbc as I now this is a mostly liberal group.
I still believe HIV+ people have an important viewpoint that needs political recognition.

please be the FIRST to vote and TRY to be as realistic as possible dearie. ;)

because code is usually used to explain the BBC HTML tags like [/img]
your poll still needs some change however. The polls on this site doesn't allow multiple selections, so a member can't vote for the Presidental election and the Senate election and the House election. Your options are three polls in one.

Poll 1:
obama will win by less than 10 electoral votes.
romney will win by less than 10 electoral votes.
obama will win by more than 10 electoral votes.
romney will win by more than 10 electoral votes.

Poll 2:
democrats will retain power in senate.
republicans will have majority power in senate.

Poll3:
democrats will have majority in house.
republicans will retain power in house.

good luck with your poll(s) ;)

ROMNEY BIDEN 2012!

ohwut?

If Obama and Romney tie with 269 EV each, I forget the exact math but it's doable in this particular election, then the Presidency is decided in the house, with the Repubs polling very well in the house they would chose Romney. But guess who Picks the VP, The Senate....which of course would chose Biden over Ryan.

ROMNEY BIDEN 1012!

I hope Obama will win. I'm too overwhelmed by election coverage to understand the polls and predictions.  There seem to be too many polls and predictions this year but it is what it is.

It has seemed to be a tight race for a few weeks now.  Romney never seemed to have lost what he deserved to lose, based on his soulless hypocrisy.

The lefty media pundits I like are getting too screechy about the whole thing, to boot.

i think they are screcchy for the same reason you point out.

I simply cannot fathom that anyone who is 1) a woman, 2) a glbt, 3) earns under $500k, 4) non-Christian or 5) not looking for another war would vote for Romney or support the Republicans at all. Yet many of those people, against their own self-interests, will be lead like sheeple to the slaughter and pull the "R" lever in the voting booth..... well, touch the straight-R button on the screen LOL. How they can possibly make that decision is utterly beyond me and I have gotten quite screechy with some people I know. LOL

Maybe there is a lesson in all this, I dunno.

I love me my Rachel Maddow and ilk. But can the real lefties ever hope their painstaking breakdown of the lies and fipflops will shine light into the common blindness about all that.  Preaching to the converted.

I do think the Obama campaign has done a good job with the media coming right back, quickly, clearly and pithily.  And since i assume the general population sees those ads, then the message is being transmitted.  Just not received.  Or rejected.

And I suppose there is nothing much to do about low information voters.  Nor about voters who do look at all the messages, but don't have much cognitive dissonance. Go with the last thing they hear or see.  Go with the easy or reassuring message.

The only pundits screeching were the ones on the right when the polls showed Romney losing. They came up with every excuse in the book to explain away the poll numbers. The left press was quite up front in admitting Obama lost the first debate. Something the right never did examining the second and third debates, which every objective poll had Romney losing.

I just can't believe the mo's around here who support Romney. Explain yourself to Bocker and other gay members of the forums who are married that Romney/Ryan support a constitutional amendment to ban gays the right to marry.

Once the shrub stated his support for such an amendment, I decided that I could no longer reside in the US.  I think, that for those of us a little older, we remember how life has been, for us, for simply being gay.  The idea that the president, any president, would support any amendment, limiting the rights of any Americans, is simply beyond my comprehension.  Fortunately, I had other options and I cannot begin to tell you, how affirming it is to live in a county that considers me as an equal.

There is no early voting in Pennsylvania. My polling place is a mere 2 blocks away. I figure I can hobble over there without worrying about diarrhea dripping down my pant legs.

I prefer to follow Nate Silver's fivethirtyeight blog.  In 2008, he was only off by something like 4 electoral votes.  He has President Obama's chances of winning at 75%.

I just saw him on Real Time.  He said many networks like to use Gallop.  He doesn't seem to put much stock in Gallop.  And, the networks need to portray the race as very, very tight.  That brings in viewers.  And, they like to talk about a possible tie every election.  I suppose it is good to educate viewers on what would happen, in the case of a tie.  I believe the President will hold every state from 2008, except for NC and IN.

The pollsters say they've been able to account for so many having only cell phones today.  I only have a cell phone.  We got rid of our home phone, after all it did was collect dust.  Many younger folks don't have home phones.  And, if they do, they don't answer calls from family often times, not to mention unlisted numbers.

We get these in the mail from the Romney Campaign.  Evidently, they think my partner is loaded.  I can't believe how they act like $50k is no big deal.  Obama asks us for $5..lol.  The only thing we can think of as to why he gets these is that he registered as a Repub, when he turned 18.  His dad is repub, so he registered as one.  However, he soon switched to Dem.

Due to this, perhaps I should adjust my expectations from hoping to get 300 votes to hoping to get 30.

Romney is leading Ohio by a couple of percentage points.  Which isn't a great surprise for me as I seem to know more people supporting him than Obama.  Or perhaps, those who are voting for Obama are keeping their mouths shut.

If Ohio voters believe all the pack of lies, which even the car companies have taken pains to point out, and go ahead and elect Romney, then I hope every single one of those voting idiots gets their chosen future.
I feel sorry for the people who would suffer under a Romney Presidency, never having voted for him, and always having known he was elected based on smoke and mirror and the worst pandering in decades.  All at a time when anyone can suss out some basic facts so easily.

Today's Quinnipica poll for Ohio shows Obama still maintaining a 5 pt. lead, unchanged from last week. Sorry Mittens, you will be losing come next Tuesday evening if you can't win Ohio. Even if you win Florida, you will still lose.

Now, what snacks should I plan for Election Night? That's the most important issue.

I've been following the polls provided as a link from our largest newspaper and It's showing Romney winning slightly.  I guess I'm gonna just stop watching the polls as I have found so many different ones with conflicting data.

I think it's a conspiracy by the mainstream media to make it appear that it's a close race in order to receive more advertising money.

He did just move there, and he's been bitching about it continually. IIRC he's never previously lived there, only visited or short work bits. Never actually had to rent an apartment, etc. He's not handling it very well and has been embarrassingly public about it on his blog, to the point that everyone else is making fun of him. But then again, Sully's really easy to mock.

you will be losing come next Tuesday evening if you can't win Ohio. Even if you win Florida, you will still lose.

This is LMAO. Either candidate can win without Ohio (especially this year), albeit more difficult. This is true especially since Mittens is purportedly closing gaps all over the board.

I believe the bases will pretty much cancel each other out, and the election will come down to the independent vote, which shows Mittens up by 10+points. Although all of this is predicated on the accuracy of polling, remember this is not 1980 anymore and there are fewer and fewer landlines (how many of you still have a landline?) thus polls are sampling the few people who have landlines and trying to pull that data up to a wider group. True, there is some polling donve via cell phones but it is very expensive and therefore somewhat limited.

I'm not sure how much credence to put in any polls, whether it shows Mittens or Barry leading. So who knows how it will pan out.

It will be an interesting night on Tuesday  ;)

Real clear politics Average national poll.

Obama 47.4%
Romney 47.4%

Disclosure: That is the national poll which really doesnt mean anything in an electoral college but its still interesting that it is exactly TIED!!!

Side note:  Andrew Sullivan is creepy.

You've obviously been masturbating while watching Dick Morris on Fox News. If Mittens doesn't win Ohio, he'd have to win every other remaining swing state. That's simply not true for Obama.

Let's put it this way -- with the current polling averages in the swing states would you rather be in Mittens shoes or Obama's? That answer shouldn't be difficult, even for a braincell-challenged fake-taco-eating tumbleweed like you.

What a turnout! :)

I don't get the national polls. Every single non official poll, like the one here and the polls on many many other forums, people consistently are overwhelming for Obama. Its like 2 to 1 average in Obama's favor. Many 3 to 1. So why are the national polls so tight? Doesn't make sense. If the actual vote follows the same trend, Obama will win by a huge landslide. Assuming Karl Rove hasn't figured out how to rig the process.

Check out this blog http://fivethirtyeight.blogs.nytimes.com/author/nate-silver/

If you read this guys blog you get a bigger picture of sampling from all the major polls . Polls such as Gallup used to be the gold standard as far as polling goes , but much has changed in recent years such as people using cell phones instaed of land lines , so Gallup is still a good poll but only if used as snapshot of a certain demographic . There are other partisan polls out there too that distract from the clear picture . This guy uses a method that factors in many diffrent polls .  Hope this helps .

also, the poll here on this site is FAR from scientific. i should know, as i posted it.
i just thought it might reflect the views of people here on the outcome of the election and had hopes that people would vote on this poll for who would win and by what margin and NOT who they hoped would win.

with a mere 23 votes thus far, this poll is as helpful as an umbrella in a tornado.

So why are the national polls so tight? Doesn't make sense.

Because Mittens is running up huge margins in all of the southern states. I provided a link somewhere, not sure if it's in this thread or another, with the regional breakdown of a typical Gallup poll. Outside of the South Obama leads in national polling, but by only a margin of something in single digits. In the South Romney leads by something like 20 pts. so that high margin cancels out the three other regions if you look just at the aggregate numbers. Hence the possibility of Romney winning the popular vote but losing the EC.

And, of course, Romney's 80% support in the South is all white people. I feel sorry for them actually, having to make the choice of voting for a member of a polygamist religious cult to defeat The Black Man.

I've questioned many of my friends and family how they intend to vote on Issue 2 and not a single one of them had a clue what it really deals with.    Gotta love these well informed voters.

If it passes, Ohio's constitution can be amended without referendums but rather by a group of political delegates.

The Columbus Dispatch has endorsed a Democrat for State Senator.  This is huge from a Republican newspaper.

http://www.dispatch.com/content/stories/editorials/2012/10/31/for-u-s--senate.html

I think the Republican telephone campaign might be failing miserably, sending mixed messages.  My family tends to vote Republican but even my mother is concerned by some of the recent automated calls she has rec'd.

One call indicated that the women of Ohio should not be primarily concerned with social/personal issues, but rather on the the state of the economy.  Within the same day, she rec'd another recording pleading with her to vote for Romney and Mandel because they believe in the sanctity of marriage and the DOMA.  They believe marriage is between one man and one woman.

So, do they want her to vote based on social issues or not?

7 hour voting lines in.......Florida

Voter suppression at its best, in AMERICA.  South Florida is voting like a third world country (says Ed Schultz who just had a large segment about this on his show today)

It's just so amazing to me that the people tollerate that.  That people are allowing that.  Voter suppression = Romney as President.

Oh and for everyone in Florida, ya know in other states you can go online, print out a ballot, mail it in.   Then you go online 2 days later, log on and the computer tells you that your ballot has been received and counted or if there is a problem why so you can fix it.  Just saying, people of Florida and the other states that are like it shouldn't tollerate 7 hour lines.

Or as in one county in south Florida today have them shut and lock the doors at the polling place while there were still thousands of people outside.

Ok sorry people, rant over

Also for Guilhermina, today's national polls are all in:

Of eleven poll releases, three ties, three Obama +1, and one + .4 lead for Romney. Three more have Obama +3.

(CNN) Tie,
(Reuters) Obama +1,
(YouGov) Obama +2,
(ABC/WaPo) Obama +1,
(Pew) Obama +3,
(Zogby) Romney +.4,
(Rand) Obama +3.2,
(Rasmussen) Tie,
(NBC/WSJ) Obama +1,
(PPP) Obama +3,
(Politico/GWU) Tie

If you just do a simple average of these you get Obama +1.25

Now that I had time to look up the numbers, I wanted to revisit buginme's statement about West Coast vote-by-mail versus East Coast that doesn't particularly do that. I'm not trying to say which is preferable, but just that all things considered it doesn't amount to much -- the current fiascos in Ohio and Florida aren't due to the superiority of one system over the other, it's that politicians in those two states have screwed things up in an effort to screw over largely urban, largely minority, largely Dem voters.

So let's compare Oregon's voter turnout in 2008 vs. Pennsylvania's, as a comparison of the least restrictive (Oregon was the first vote-by-mail state in the US in 1998) to one that mostly just votes on actual election day. Results: Oregon had a 62.9% turnout and Pennsylvania had 63.7%, a somewhat counter-intuitive result don't you think?
Title: Re: electoral vote predictions 2012
Post by: buginme2 on November 05, 2012, 02:50:55 pm
Curious why you chose to compare Oregon with Penn, if you compare Washington State with Penn:

2008 Washington State turnout was 84.61% versus Penn 63%.

Every state is unique, my point is the government should be making it easier to vote not more difficult.  Florida and Ohio and others are clearly suppressing votes fromthe middle and working class.  My issue is that it seems (I could be wrong as I am about as far away from Florida as you can get in this country) but no one is throwing a fit about it.

Shit, in Seattle people will take to the streets and protest for much less egregious wrong doings.  I dont see any push back from the people down there.  Why?

Romney will win Florida, and it is very likely that it will be due to voter supression.  In the United States thats enough for a revolution in my book.

Title: Re: electoral vote predictions 2012

I chose Oregon because I know (and stated) that they've had the mail in system in place the longest. And per wikipedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States_presidential_election_in_Washington_(state),_2008#Results) (scroll down to "Anaylsis" and then results section there) Washington's turnout was 62.2%, not 84.61%, so you actually had a lower turnout than Oregon.

The issue is partisan shenanigans with polling hours, number of polling places, etc. targeting certain voting areas within a state, not the method of voting. The data would support my assertion.

i'm not so sure.
i know that recently in american politics, the republican party has wrapped itself in the term freedom. i consider myself very liberal and the mandatory vote concept goes beyond my comfort zone.
if you don't vote and are unaware of what is at stake you will suffer the consequences.
where would one draw the line on the "exceptions" to the rule?

i DO however support a national set of guidlines/law to prevent the obvious ability of any party to keep people from voting.

Don't want to spark another debate, but both parties were accused of voter suppression in Ohio.  It could have backfired when the DNC filed suit to suppress military personell from having additional means of voting because of the very nature of their deployments and such.  These are the types of issues you'll hear a group of military veterans sitting around their clubs, drinking beer and bitching about it.

I'd say screw "districts" entirely.  Why not elect US Reps via statewide voting -- same number you have today, but statewide.  The districts make no sense as there is no increase in number of Congress people based on population, so some reps represent far more citizens than others.  This would not only end the need for serpentine redistricting gimmicks, where politicians get to pick voters instead of the other way around, it would ALSO stop the influx of extremists (on both sides) from getting into Congress.  So many districts are so slanted to one party, that all they need to do is pander to their sides extremes and win the primary (and therefore, the election).  We see so many Tea Party members in the House, yet few in the Senate -- why?  Tea Party candidates have a tough time winning at the state level (Can you say, "I am not a witch................")

Just voted and had no wait at all.  Guess there is a benefit to living in rural America.  Kinda nice to walk in and have every poll worker call you by your first name and already verify that you're registered.

But as my proud Republican cousin pointed out on FB, it'll be busy this evening when all the hardworking people get off work and have that small window of opportunity to vote.   ;D

Its to be expected . My mom called me to tell me that the voting machines were going to rigged to cast ballots for President Obama no matter how you vote . I asked her where she heard this at and she said it was on the "news " . Keep in mind my mom has Alzheimer's , so go easy on her .

Done voting -

took me one hour.. that's it --- and yes, I am in Florida (Miami)

Thing is, during early voting there were only 20 voting sites open

On Election Day, there are 500 sites open...

Thus, I would like to thank all Floridians who voted early and cleared the way for me. Your patriotism is both appreciated and duly noted.  ;)

Stood in line for 90 mins this morning.  In 11 years, I have never waited longer than 25 mins (in 2008).  My precinct is very heavily Democrat (in the 70%+ range), so I think this is a good harbinger for the President.  If turnout is heavy in VA -- I don't see Romney taking it -- nor -- our Senate seat going to the already failed George Allen.

In any event, I don't trust voting machine companies claiming intellectual property rights and not allowing their software to be examined.  And, I think we need to move away from our elections being controlled and run by partisans.

Though sometimes unreliable and subject to change, exit polling in Ohio is lining up with the polling done during the campaign, and nationally it's showing the latino vote going from 9 to 10% since 2008.

It was expected that the 36 point margin Obama had with latinos four years ago was going to increase by potentially 5-8 more points.

I fail to comprehend why a person with HIV would vote for a man who presents such a clear and present danger to HIV research, providing meds to those who need them, women's reproductive rights, and marriage equality.

That is where I am at now.... feels like I have to run to the bathroom to go - but then don't have to or very little.

And I am starving - I haven't eaten since 10:30 last night (Monday), because I couldn't eat any solids after midnight last night..... My procedure isn't until 11:30, so by the time I am done, I will have gone about 39 hours without solid food --- needless to say, I will be taking my doped up ass to somewhere to eat as soon as I leave the hospital.

Gay marriage is also passing in Washington state, the race hasn't been called yet but it's ahead 3 points right now.
Marijuana legalization won in Washington by a pretty big margin almost 10 points so that has been called.  It was called in Colorado also.

btw, this is what happens when liberal don't vote in mid-term elections (http://www.slate.com/blogs/weigel/2012/11/07/how_ridiculous_gerrymanders_saved_the_house_republican_majority.html) in the amounts they do in presidential year campaigns. It's not just that teabagging types get elected, that's bad enough, but redistricting happens. And because the US is set up to allow partisans to control the process of drawing the maps, they make Congress even more further to the right, and not at all reflective of the larger electorate.

So next time you complain about Congress, blame yourself and your yapping liberal friends.

Title: Re: electoral vote predictions 2012

Oh, there's lots of nonsense going around. Dick Morris originally predicted Romney at 325 and Obama at 213 -- and labeled that a "landslide".

Once Florida announces their voting Obama will have 332 and Romney 206, but Morris is calling this a "squeaker". That's how Republicans operate.

Furthermore, when Dubya won 286 to Kerry's 251 the GOP claimed they had a "mandate"... ::)

I agree that the popular vote will be smallish, depends how you label squeakers. But again, it will be around Bush's 2004 margin of 2% and I don't recall any humility after that election about what Republicans did or did not win.

And because the US is set up to allow partisans to control the process of drawing the maps, they make Congress even more further to the right, and not at all reflective of the larger electorate.

The City of Austin, Texas has been gerrymandered to the point where it is split up among 6 congressional distrcts (Texas Congressional Districts # 10, 17, 21, 25, 31, and 35) which is ridiculous for a population of 820,000.  Of course, the Republican majority in the Texas House of Representatives did this deliberately to increase the number of Republicans that Texas sends to the US House of Representatives.  Unfortunately, it is perfectly legal.

So it's true:  voting only in presidential election years, and only in federal races, is not enough.  You have to be involved in what is going on at the state level.

Here is a sensible plan for redistricting that was just adopted on the local level by the City of Austin, that tries to take the politics out of redistricting in the city:

http://citizensdistricting10-1.org/wp-content/uploads/2012/03/Indep-Citizens-Redistrict-Comm-Overview-v2.4.pdf (http://citizensdistricting10-1.org/wp-content/uploads/2012/03/Indep-Citizens-Redistrict-Comm-Overview-v2.4.pdf)

Note that just yesterday, Austin voted to abandon it's current city council structure of 6 "at large" representatives, and move to local representatives elected from 10 districts.  Finally, some diversity on our city council.

Chrisitie knows what's good for him.

He is toast in the current extremist Republican party. But it will not likely be the same party in 4 years. If Christie doesn't die of a heart attack by then, he might be well positioned.

There is likely going to be some kind of purge, change or split within the Republican party, if they ever intend to become a government party again.

It will be interesting to see if the House and Senate Republicans are going to make any attempt to do what's right for the nation or just continue on the same path of obstruction over the next 2 years as they did the last 2. If they have any idea what's good for them, they will change course.

Wow!!!  I would post a comment on her Youtube account-- but, for once, I'm actually scared to.... lol

ouch (http://politicalwire.com/archives/2012/11/09/bush_had_more_mormon_support_than_romney.html)

Pew Research finds that Mitt Romney won 78% of the Mormon vote in the 2102 presidential election.

In 2004, George W. Bush was backed by 80% of Mormons.

AP just announced that Obama was declared the official winner in Florida (http://www.miamiherald.com/2012/11/10/3091017/obama-wins-fla-topping-romney.html) and just a hair shy away from 1%

Quote
President Barack Obama was declared the winner of Florida's 29 electoral votes Saturday, ending a four-day count with a razor-thin margin that narrowly avoided an automatic recount that would have brought back memories of 2000.

No matter the outcome, Obama had already clinched re-election and now has 332 electoral votes to Romney's 206.

The Florida Secretary of State's Office said that with almost 100 percent of the vote counted, Obama led Republican challenger Mitt Romney 50 percent to 49.1 percent, a difference of about 74,000 votes. That was over the half-percent margin where a computer recount would have been automatically ordered unless Romney had waived it.

Can you imagine, if the election came down to Florida?!  Apparently, Obama won the state by about 78,000 votes.  Many of those were absentee.  We possibly still wouldn't know the outcome.  The Romney lawyers (and maybe rightly so) would be questioning the validity of every one of those ballots.  This could have been 2000 all over.

We need federal standards for federal elections.  Every state needs early voting.  I've never thought it was fair that some states get early voting, while others don't.  Although, in more rural states like KY, you wouldn't need as many early voting days.  Some states extend election day voting to later hours, while it stops at 6pm here.  We need to get elections out of the hands of partisans.  I thought we would have done this after Katherine Harris ran FL elections and was Bush's co-chair in FL.  Oh, and the purging.  The governor reduced early voting from 14 days to 8 days.  He is not apologizing.  He claims he did this to make gov't more efficient.  We all know it was all about voter suppression.  Why would you reduce early voting to make gov't more efficient?  Doesn't make sense.  He should be hauled before Congress to answer to this.  However, in the House, it would be run by republicans.

From what I read, this reduction in days caused many to end up voting absentee.  That was one reason for the delay.  And, as we saw, many were in line until 1am.  That should not happen.  There were not enough machines.  In many places, they had 10-page ballots to feed into the machines.  They had so many confusing ballot initiatives that caused those 10-page ballots.  I'm not sure what all those initiatives were about, but I'm now wondering whether they also did that on purpose to cause delays.

Congress has the constitutional power to dictate congressional election rules.  If the states don't go along with everything, Congress could do a separate federal election ballot and rules on early voting.  In the President's acceptance speech, he said we need to do something about the long lines.  I hope that wasn't just an applause line, and he will push to get something done.  How many people just could not wait in those long lines, due to needing to pick up their kids or return to work?  Or, they have a medical condition that would make it difficult.

Yeppir,  that's exactly the reason for the fiasco down here.  The ballot in Pinellas county was four pages , and ended up being 11 amendments.

All the state amendments failed, except for 3, and those were the ones Ed and I voted for.

Amendment 2, 9 and 11 passed. all others did not

I am also happy to say that the  3 state supreme court  judges were retained.  The republicans wanted these three out, but didn't happen.

The state house also lost it's super majority, here in Florida.

Also ,I am happy that this crazy ass was defeated, in South Florida. He was defeated by Patrick Murphy:

Watch for Pam ,.... She may be the one that will one against the current Rick Scott. As Ricky Ricardo would say, he's got some splaining to do.

And don't be surprised if Charlie Crist runs again  for governor in 2014:

I really think these people will end up partnering with the Islamic jihadists.  Its a match made in Heaven.  I am very surprised some minister or cleric hasn't risen to fame and fortune preaching the holy alliance.

I imagine a sort of Ru Paul Drag Race All-Stars process.  The christian fundamentalist and islamic jihadist will be the unbeatable pair.  Defeating all the middling religious types, the communists, the atheists, the media liberals, everyone.

Only in the final battle, all enemies conquered, will they turn on each other and rip each other's faces off.

Because John Kerry is not black.  The county has voted strongly democratic until BO came along.

There are actually more Dems in KY than Repubs.  We vote Dem for Governor.  I think we've had one repub governor in the last 40 years.  We voted for Carter once and Clinton twice.  We did vote for Bush over Gore, even though TN is a neighboring state.  But, TN also voted for Bush.

Given the Bush over Gore vote, many say Obama's race had nothing to do with it.  They say we liked Clinton, because he seemed like he could live in the trailer next door.  They say the same thing about Bush.  I know race is a big factor, though.  There are plenty of backward people here.  The Kansas book could have easily have been written about KY.

Next time you hear the lamestream media say that Obama and Democrats have a problem with the "white vote" keep in mind that this isn't really true. They have a problem with "the white Southern vote" (http://www.usatoday.com/story/theoval/2012/11/19/obama-southern-white-vote/1714291/). If you're down to only 10-15% in Alabama and Mississippi it pulls down your national vote percentage.

Unfortunately this was the first time that exit polls weren't done in every state so the picture is incomplete, but I'd assume it's like that in other Deep South states.
