Risk of precum on outside of condom
« on: December 01, 2008, 05:27:38 pm »
Well I'm back on the Worry Train and thank you in advance for your advice.  Perhaps someone can indicate if I'm at risk.

Two weeks ago I had an encounter in a video shop.  There was a lot of activity going on there and I'm worried about my only exposure with one guy.

I did not have anal sex (I've never had unprotected anal) but the person I met did rim me and insert his tongue into my anus.

Afterwards I remembered that I have been experiencing some bledding from a possbile anal fissure.  That's when I boarded the Worry Train.

Perhaps he had another partner's cum still on his tongue when he rimmed me...

If there was still viable virus on his tongue could it enter me from his rimming either inside my anus of through the bleeding I was experiencing.

It's been two weeks and I'm starting to feel lousy.

Please help.  Am I at risk??

Hi.  Please help.

After your last advice I was completely at ease and had completely put this worry out of my mind.

It's been five weeks now and today a sickness has overcome me.  Diaherra, 101 fever, sweating like I never had before, malaise, fatigue, sore throat.

It is remotely possible that viable virus on his tongue could it enter me from his rimming?

Should I test now at five weeks of wait till six.

Much appreciated all.  Freaking out

Hi folks,

Back on the worry train again.  Two weeks ago I had protected receptive sex.

Beforehand though I noticed he some precum...he put his condom on backward and then took it off and put it on correctly...so that precum may have been on the outside when he inserted.

Now I'm getting those possibly worry-related symptoms again....

Was I at risk?

Thanks

What you describe is NOT a risk for hiv infection. Hiv is a fragile, difficult to transmit virus that is primarily transmitted INSIDE the human body, as in unprotected anal or vaginal intercourse. When hiv finds itself outside the body, small changes in temperature, and pH and moisture levels all quickly damage the virus and render it unable to infect. This includes pre-cum being on the outside of the condom before it is inserted into your body. We've had this same exact situation over and over again in this forum and it has NEVER resulted in hiv infection. It isn't a risk.

If you feel unwell, go see a doctor. Whatever is going on has nothing to do with hiv infection.

And while you're here, here are a few things you should know:

You need to be using condoms for anal or vaginal intercourse, every time, no exceptions until such time as you are in a securely monogamous relationship where you have both tested for ALL sexually transmitted infections together. To agree to have unprotected intercourse is to consent to the possibility of being infected with an STI. Sex without a condom lasts only a matter of minutes, but hiv is forever.

Have a look through all three condom and lube links in my signature line so you can use condoms with confidence.

ALTHOUGH YOU DO NOT NEED TO TEST OVER THIS SPECIFIC SITUATION, anyone who is sexually active should be having a full sexual health care check-up, including but not limited to hiv testing, at least once a year and more often if unprotected intercourse occurs.

If you aren't already having regular, routine check-ups, now is the time to start. As long as you make sure condoms are being used for intercourse, you can fully expect your routine hiv tests to return with negative results. Don't forget to always get checked for all the other sexually transmitted infections as well, because they are MUCH easier to transmit than hiv.

Use condoms for anal or vaginal intercourse, correctly and consistently, and you will avoid hiv infection. It really is that simple!

On the worry train again...

First off, let me say thank you for your help today and in the past.

I'm currently experiencing a sore throat, chills, muscle aches, severe fatigue three weeks after I visited a massuese who fingered me deeply for quite some time.

He did not wear any gloves or covering on his hands and there was some significant bleeding.

My question is:

1) If he had virus from a previous and very recent client on his hands, is that considered unprotected anal sex and is it a risk?

2)  THere has never been a documented case of contractng HIV from deep fingering and bleeding, right?

I know it's in the lessons, but it messes with your mind, and it is so reassuring to get your opinions.

Wux,

Once again you're worrying over nothing.

1. For the purposes of these forums, when we refer to unprotected anal intercourse we mean when one person puts their unprotected penis into the anus of another person.

Fingering is just that - putting fingers into an anus or vagina. Fingering is NOT a risk for hiv infection, even if the person doing the fingering has never washed their hands in their life. The fact that you bled makes no difference where hiv is concerned.

2. No, there has never been a documented case of hiv infection from fingering, no matter what sort of details you can think of to add.

You haven't had a risk and you do not need to test.

Hi,

Happy New Year.

On the worry train again….

Had sex on Dec 6th with man who wore a condom.  He came in me and I stopped to check that the condom was still on (it was).

Now 26 days later I'm having symptoms…lymph nodes, nausea, diarrhea, fatigue, sore throat.

Any remote chance I was at risk even though the condom seemed to still be on?

Condoms provide very effective protection against HIV transmission.

You seem to be in a state of mind that is busily misinterpreting everything that happens (or doesn't happen) to your body as another SIGN of HIV. Tain't so. If you have symptoms that are bothering you, discuss them with your doctor. As long as you are using condoms consistently for intercourse and they don't fail, you have no cause to be concerned about sexual transmission.

Andy,

Thank you for your previous reply.  I've posted many times before and I sincerely appreciate all the help that has been provided over the years.

I always have protected sex, and only on a few occasions every year.  But like clockwork every time, 2-4 weeks later I will experience symptoms.  Then six weeks later I will test negative each time.

Here I am again 23 days later, experiencing symptoms.  Logic tells me I'm fine, but my mind wonders silly things like did the condom break and I did not know it?  Was water-based lubricant used?  Was enough used?

On and on and on...

My question is two-fold:

Is there a syndrome that has been noticed in other people where symptoms are consistently produced by some psychosomatic reaction?

Is it possible that receptive anal sex could trigger a flare up of my prostatitis and that condition could mimic the symptoms I experience?

What should I do, seek counseling, or just calm down in general?

Really appreciate the help as always.

You yourself speak of a recurring pattern of emotional and physical responses post-sex, sex which I point out did not put you at risk for HIV.

Getting some professional help to address what drives your unwarranted fears seems like a good thought on your part. Life at its best is too short to spend on unnecessary worry.

HIV is not your problem. Your thoughts and feelings are another matter.

Hello all,

Back on the Worry Train again.

31 days ago I had anal sex where I was the receptive partner.  The condom broke on the very first attempt at insertion but I'm not sure if there was penetration.

Today (31 days later) I have a fever of 100, sore throat, fatigue, cough, etc.

I know symptoms mean nothing, but of course I'm worried as usual.

Would that brief a break and insertion put me at risk?

Thanks all and all the best.

I certainly wouldn't think to test - or recommend a test -  over the incident as you describe it.
