Risk?
« on: February 25, 2011, 07:29:45 pm »
I know that I'm probably being irrational and would simply like someone to tell me I'm being irrational.  I had masturbated a bit during the week prior to the incident in question, leaving me sore and raw a bit on my penis.  I met up with an unknown status friend of mine and I fingered her for a bit and she fingered herself and sucked on her fingers after fingering herself.  She then began giving me head and proceeding to finish me off by jacking me off.  Was I at any risk from her vaginal fluids possibly still being on my hand or hers when it made contact with my penis and the raw/painful sections?

I only ask as about 11 days after the incident I began having headaches, dizziness, and a slight fever around day 14 (99.8ish). No swollen lymph nodes, and a little diahhrea.

Bob,

You were not at risk of HIV infection from this. Fingering, mutual masturbation and receiving oral sex are not risks for transmission. Additionally, the raw/painful areas on your penis do not place you at risk of infection either.

HIV is transmitted via unprotected anal and vaginal sex, by sharing contaminated injecting equipment such as needles and syringes and in some cases from HIV positive mother to her unborn or nursing infant.

Please take the time to read our Welcome Thread and follow the links to our lessons on HIV transmission.

EVEN THOUGH YOU WERE NOT AT RISK OF CONTRACTING HIV FROM THIS PARTICULAR INCIDENT, all sexually active adults should be screened for HIV and other STDs at least once a year. Twice is better. If you've not had a sexual health screening recently, you might wish to arrange for one.

Bob,

Of course we concur. Nothing you report was a risk for hiv infection.

Use condoms for anal or vaginal intercourse, correctly and consistently, and you will avoid hiv infection. IT REALLY IS THAT SIMPLE!!!

HIV is certainly character-building. It's made me see all of the shallow things we cling to, like ego and vanity. Of course, I'd rather have a few more T-cells and a little less character. Randy Shilts

Thanks Ann - I appreciate it.  My fever got near 100 this morning and I guess I'm freaking out a little because I've been dizzy, have trouble focusing, and have a slightly sore throat but no other classic symptoms (runny nose, sneezing, coughing, etc.).

So even if I had small scabbed areas on my penis and she took her fingers from her vagina with vaginal fluid and swished them around her mouth before giving me head that couldve resulted in agitating those scabs, I'm okay?

Bob,

You absolutely, positively did NOT have a risk for hiv infection.

Hiv is a fragile, difficult to transmit virus that is primarily transmitted INSIDE the human body as in unprotected anal or vaginal intercourse where the virus never leaves the confines of the two bodies.

Once outside the body, small changes in temperature, and pH and moisture levels all quickly damage the virus and render it unable to infect.

Getting a blowjob is not a risk for hiv infection and it doesn't matter if she had vaginal fluids in her mouth. Not only is saliva not infectious, but it also contains over a dozen different proteins and enzymes that damage hiv and render it unable to infect.

You did not have a risk. If you feel unwell, see a doctor. It's nothing to do with hiv.

Use condoms for anal or vaginal intercourse, correctly and consistently, and you will avoid hiv infection. IT REALLY IS THAT SIMPLE!!!

Ann,

You rock.  Your poignant and assertive response was precisely what I needed.
