Venting: Why do people do this?
« on: November 25, 2007, 11:45:37 am »
So over the holiday weekend my cousin Denise and her fiancee made their appearance and of course people wanted them to stay longer. Denise told me she and her beau had to split early to shop for kitchen cabinets and when my brother-in-law found out he made a comment along the lines of "well, cabinets will always be there so that can wait" or something. Why does the holiday season bring out the control freak in people? That comment is bloody immature if you ask me. Sometimes people's selfishness (or is it neediness?) is so transparent. If someone tells me they have to split I FUCKING NEVER ASK WHY because it's childish childish childish and intrusive. I just go with the flow. Like today a museum is having a showing of Brokeback Mountain and if I hang out with my friend before then, he'll certainly ask for the exact time of the showing (it happens to be at 6:30 tonight) so that he can IMPOSE on me by calculating the travel time between the museum and his house so he can try to maximize the time he gets from me as if I might not want to relax or whatever before going to the museum. Transparent!  >:(

I know a few people who are like that ("control freaks").  I'm like you, I go with the flow and let everyone do what they want without having to throw in my own interjections.  I think with some people it's learned behavior that takes a long time to change, if they try to change it at all.

Hey Alex,

Just my thoughts on this. Were your cousin and her fiancee confortable and enjoying themselves at this gathering. Were they having a good/ relaxing time ?

I also would not have made the comment your brother in law made. BUT, if I was to say something, it would be more in the line of " Are you sure you really have to leave, we're really enjoying your company". But as I said, I would most likely let it go and wish them well on their cabinet shopping !

How often does your cousin and brother- in - law see each other?

Take care-----Ray
