Holy shit...  Those poor guys. And how many people knew about this and said nothing...

I remember sadistic coaches...  I never heard "you're a fucking faggot" in the 70's (from a coach  :o).  Never got shoved and slammed and jerked around...

I had a coach in my early years at school that ruined team sports for a few of us . I was talking to an old friend not ago about that coach and how his treatment of us that didn't have a dad that taught us how to play football or any sports effected us that had the misfortune to have his class .

He would yell and scream inches from our face and belittle us for not knowing what we were never taught .

Was that a coach, or the gym teacher??   

I give some leeway for coaches to be manic and aggressive...  Not like this Rutger's coach, nor like the drill sergeant you describe....

I had one nasty gym teacher.  Even as a kid, I realised the guy was dumb so that kind of protected me...

He was our gym teacher and he would have been our coach if he hadn't pushed us away from trying to learn the games .

I had some adult friends even at a young age in that town and he figured out quickly it was best not to bully me ... it didn't work out well for him shall we say . That wasn't enough for me though , I hated the way he treated kids and I still remember it like it was yesterday . I found ways to torment him back in such a way that I could get away with it .

ahh... memories of gym. :P

in 3rd grade I had a gym teacher that made up some strange rules.

I don't even remember what we were playing but we had to throw a ball of some sort but if anyone crossed the line on the gym floor when throwing the ball there would be consequences to pay.

he would "punish" the offenders by making them bend over his knee and he would "spank" the kid with a very light pat on the butt.

it was more of an embarrassment than anything but I have never forgotten the creep and I have few doubts that he was a pedophile.
