Question on meds?? (NRTIs+Entry/Fusion Inhibitors)
« on: April 14, 2008, 11:25:55 pm »
I recently entered a trial for a new version of viramune coupled with truvada. . . it has been going well, no side effects that i can really notice from the pills. A little lazier but not much.

my question is, ive read a lot about entry and fusion inhibitors. I would say they could or would be like the "front line" against the virus from getting my good cd4 cells. right? I have pretty good insurance and am getting the study drugs for free. If I could improve my cd4 numbers by adding another pill or treatment I would probly do it. So should i look at combining the 2 therapies?

Hi,
Sorry I don't have an answer to your question.
But I was wondering about the study you're in.  Is it once a day?  And one pill?
Thanks

Adding additional meds to your current working combo is an overkill and not going to improve your CD4 count.  The antiviral drugs only suppress viral replication,  how soon/fast your CD4 recovers depends on your own genes and body.

If you are in the VERxVE study, look at exclusion criteria # 9, 10 & 11.

VERxVE Study on Efficacy and Safety of Nevirapine XR in Comparison to Nevirapine IR With Truvada in Naive HIV+ Patients
http://clinicaltrials.gov/ct2/show/NCT00561925?term=viramune&cond=hiv&phase=23&rank=10

EXCLUSION CRITERIA:

9. Patients who are receiving other concomitant treatments which are not permitted, as described in the prescribing information

10. Use of investigational medications (any experimental agent other than the study regimen) within 30 days before study entry or during the trial

11. Use of immunomodulatory drugs within 30 days before study entry or during the trial (e.g., interferon, cyclosporin, hydroxyurea, interleukin 2)
