I wonder why they do not respond?  Has someone else asked what you were going to? has your question you were gonna ask been aswered by someone else already or are you afraid to post because the replies can be very nasty sometimes and maybe you are afraid to post? Just wondering. It seems like there are about 10 people on here who reply to every post on here. Its time for some new people to voice their opinions. So if you are afraid please post anyway. Thanks

because subject lines can only tell you so much about what a thread's topic really is. that tends to be misleading at times (mostly done non-intentionally), so a lot of people might read a thread to see what it's about but never respond. And they probably don't respond for exactly the reasons you pointed out. Though I could add another reason - they're just not interested in the topic enough to post.

(I know I haven't posted in threads for all three reasons you listed. Sometimes too, I haven't been posting after reading a thread because my head just isn't in the right place to give a good or helpful answer. I'm coming up on the first year anniversay of when I took my second long-term partner into the hospital, where he stayed for 60 days before coming home to pass away from AIDS and non-Hodgkin's lymphoma - almost exactly to the date of when I lost my first long-term partner to AIDS fourteen years ago. Needless to say, I haven't been in the right frame of mind for giving out much help lately; but I sure have received a helluvalot of comfort and support here in the times when I needed it. Some very kind and generous people here even donated money so I could pay the bill to cremate my partner.  :-* Thank you once again, my friends.)

As to some of the same people making frequent posts, there are multiple reasons there. Often those first-posters are pretty knowledgeable and generaly post probably the best advice you'll get right off the bat. (sometimes it takes a few more questions to get enough info from the OP to give a "good" reply) Plus, it's nice to have some of those people around to answer a post quickly. I'd hate to wait for days until someone, anyone replied.  :D

Afraid to voice opinions?? This crowd?? ::)  ;D You must be kidding.  ;) Everyone's got an opinon, and states them quite freqently. Unfortunately, text doesn't have the nuances of facial expressions (thank Bill Gates for emoticons ;D ) or body language, and sometimes the opinions really start flying from this crowd (Bless all of them, even if they are wrong for not agreeing with me all the time. ;) :-*)

To the chagrin of some around here, as you see, I often have quite an opinion myself and type quite a while putting out that opinion. ;) But I do usually sit here for some time trying to compose what I want to get across, rather than throwing out tit for tat comments. Unfortunately, I've still offended some, and I kinda think I may be on some people's "ignore list" now. I haven't ever used the ignore button myself. I wanna know what they're saying about me!  :o :D No. Really, I think everyone is entitled to their opinion and I try to be happy to hear - even when I don't agree. I try to discuss my objections to their opinion sometimes; but that's always a 50/50 bet on whether someone will want to "discuss" back with you.  ;)

I'm not sure what you mean, but I think I know where you're going with this. Are you talking about the LTS forum or the forums in general?

Most people post in a thread that interests them. If the question is being asked repeatedly, most folks take a look and move on. It's nothing personal. If you look around, most threads actually garner only a few responses before falling off the page. There's no quarantee of a reply when you hit the post button, and there sure ain't no quarantee that you'll not see the same folks posting over and over again. They're probably not going to answer your question anyway and are just using your thread to talk about themselves.

As for the nasty part, usually the tone of a poster dictates the response. If you are talking about the Longtime forum, there ain't many of us, so you can expect the same poster's posting over and over and over and over...

Certainly you notice a handful of people who seem to post responses to many comments or questions.  Sometimes I look at the far-right column of a content page...last posts.  You see the same person's name seven or eight times in a row, with two minutes between each post.  A lot of times it's just people saying "good luck," "too bad," etc. which to me is kind of a waste of time to post or read.  Some of those people have posted over 5,000 or 6,000 times...where do they get the time!

If you've ever looked at the "Users Online" section you'll see that 75% (or more) of the activity on these boards is by unregistered "Guests" -- people who just wander in here, possibly not even HIV positive, who never bother to become active on the boards.  Add in registered users who don't post much and you can answer your own question.

There's no need to antagonize the more vocal components of the board with accusations of nastiness.

not a suprising response from BT as you always have been rather nasty to anything i post on here :o :o :o :----thought i had you on ignore, i do now.  BT lighten up with me--ok???? ;D ;D ;D ;D 8) 8) 8) 8)  What did i ever do to you??? Have a great day and hope you are well and healthy. :D :D :D :D :D :D

anyway, i did not take into account the fact that people who are not registered are included in the tally of how many people have read the posting, which explains a lot. Thank you so much. I asked this question in general. Not directed towards any grouping. But since I am a LTS ( at least i think I am but I am sure I will get lots of comments) and tend to post in this part of the forum I decided to ask the question here.

Gee...I literally had no idea I was "targeting" anyone by making a simple comment about frequent posters.  Anyway whether or not I have a particular opinion or perception is, of course, never influenced by whether or not it may be popular.

I simply observed that one must have a good deal of free time on their hands to post thousands of comments on the boards here, some of which appear to have no great purpose.  That is neither a felony or even a misdemeanor the last time I checked.  8)     I can likewise "accuse" myself of not having a great deal of free time, since I've posted <200 comments in the four or five years I've been lurking around herein.

I'd prefer if you made comments that might bring peace or clear up misunderstandings.
There is too much fighting going on all around us, especially in this time of uncertainty (fundings cut, etc).

sometimes tempers flair around here, but usually things work out.

(oh and sorry for the questioning, it is a bit annoying, although I hope our request to make this a LTS only forum is considered)

Hi Gary
People start threads for all kinds of reasons, they are lonely, need advice, need to vent or just need to know that someone out there cares enough about what they have to say to post a few lines in responce..so maybe , just maybe all those people you are accusing of wasting their time because they read or respond, simply just care..ever thought of that?..and I don't think it's so much "where" do they get the time I think the fact is they "take" the time.

What the hell is this Gary?

I know you, yes, we've met and I know what your job is so I understand why you don't have free time.. However, for those that you work with, haven't you ever seen someone with HIV that wasn't able to work?  Haven't you seen HIV+s that are too crippled to spend much time outside of a chair?  Come on, I cannot believe you even had the thoughts you placed here, let alone in the LTS forum.  I think you have really gone too far, and need to re-think the state of HIV affairs and quit standing in judjement of those who find their panacea in this website.  Just think how many of the clients you have delt with who have no life whatsoever, and then you come here on occasion and then this post comes out of your head to the screen.  Come on Gary, please cool your heels.

Some people really need this space and some people actually have enough money to stay home and enjoy this place without having to work.  There are so many reasons you have overlooked in your blanket review of our lives online.  Not fair at all.

Just my opinion.
The Bible contains 6 admonishments to homosexuals,
and 362 to heterosexuals.
This doesn't mean that God doesn't love heterosexuals,
It's just that they need more supervision.

? ? ?

Uh...I haven't had a job since 1997 when I went through a two-year application, denial, and appeal process for SSDI.  So I think you might have me mixed up with someone else?  Hence I don't work with anybody.  I have malar and body wasting so of course have empathy with anyone else who is symptomatic.  I pay hundreds of dollars a year out of my own pocket to get Radiesse injections for my face.  I certainly don't judge anybody, having been rejected by others due to my own problems, appearance or otherwise.  And I really don't have that much of a life in the way that phrase is typically defined.

Further, I think it's great if people have lots of time on their hands.  My chores (housework, meals, laundry, paperwork, etc.) and errands (medical and others) take a fair share of time for me, personally, and I usually take a nap in the afternoon due to fatigue.  So there are days I wish for a little more free time.

I think what I've said speaks for itself and I won't be trying to "defend" myself further over something that has been blown out of proportion and taken out of context.

Reading all the posts on this subject is one of the main reasons that I abstain from posting on the forums.  It seems to me there is a lot of S--t slinging here a lot of the time.  their seems to be a lot of conflicting personality's here.  That is not always a bad thing, but can be in certain circumstances.

On the other hand, I have learned a lot here on the forums by just reading posts by others.  I can relate to some of the posters experiences with this virus.

Hope everyone has a great day!

ok so this post went a bit astray.....but its kind of amazing how some of the antagonists turn around in the next post and take a completely different opinion.  I really feel that more people would post but are afraid to because  the "regulars" on here will attack them and thats a shame.
Anyway I think everyone on here is under their own fair share of stress. So peace health and hugs to everyone.

Anything posted in theses forums is always up for debate, we all have a different take on things posted,(not everyone will agree with you all the time) I find nothing posted in  these forum to be afraid of, or scared-off by, I would hope that most of us have thicker-skins than that, as most do, that is not what the scope of these Forums are about...theres nothing to be afraid of here in these forums, and nobody is really gonna attack you for posting your own opinion, that simply is just not true at all........ ???

Some people are afraid ... although not because they think someone else in the forums is going to call them a name they don't like.  Many people are not "out" about their poz status to the whole world and since these forums are search able via any search engine some people prefer to remain anonymous.  This is probably why many people have cute avatars rather than a picture of themselves.  Some people (and you know who you are ... I myself am guilty of it from time to time) just like to change their avatar to fit their mood.

Sometimes you read a post and know exactly how you are going to respond but by the time you reach the end of the thread you find someone has already said it so why post it twice.

Maybe someone will ask a question and you read hoping to find the same answer and don't really have anything helpful to add.

I could go on with a lot of other reasons but everyone probably bored by now so I'll just add (and please don't take this the wrong way ... and if you do I'm sorry in advance  :D ) try not to jump to conclusions about someone's postings.  Many times things are written in a light hearted tone but can come across as cruel or harsh on a blank page.  emoticons don't quite do the human face justice.

i just think the "regulars" who seem to respond to every post on here need to be a bit more compassionate sometimes. I truly feel a lot more people would post but they are afraid because they sometimes get attacked on here. Then there are those who like to just agitate things and then in the next post tell everyone to calm down. They just like to get a rise out of people. This is a place where we come to ask questions and to vent our problems within a forum of people who are all experiencing some of the same things and are trying to find a solution to the problem they are faceing or just want someone to say that its going to be ok and hang in there. So lets all try to be a little less judgemental about what the person is posting and how the post is answered in a more positive and helpful way. Thanks

ph,

I understand what you are trying to say, and I agree with you.   We should ALL try to be less judgemental and more compassionate.   My experience with most of the LTSers on this board is that they are very helpful and knowledgeable about a variety of things.

If some of us seem a bit 'short fused' perhaps it's just that we've dealt with years of shit (pardon my french) and our tolerence levels for foolishness are probably lower than the average person's, and most of our "bullshit meters" are set on high.   That's all.

I've got myself
In a masochestic hold
Why don't you let go
Shake it off but
Just to redirect my flow
Come on let's go

Sit up straight
I'm on a double date
I've got to find my way
Into the light, heavy, middle weight
We don't stop for rock around the clock
Motor mouthing off
In front of every other road block

Come again and tell me
What you're going through
Like a girl who only knew
Her child was due

Memories of everything
On lemon trees on Mercury and
Come to me with remedies
From five or six of seven seas and
You always took me with a smile
When I was down
Memories of everything
That blew through

Looking up into
A reverse vertigo
What an undertow
Give it up
Another stubborn Scorpio
Come on, let's go

Sit up straight
I'm on a double date
I've gotta find my way
Into the light, heavy, middle weight
We don't stop for rock around the clock
Motor mouthing off
In front of every other road block

Come again and tell me
What you're going through
Like a girl who only knew
Her child was due
To the moon she gave another good review
turn around and look at me
it's really really you

Memories of everything
On lemon trees on Mercury and
Come to me with remedies
From five or six of seven seas and
You always took me with a smile
When I was down
Memories of everything
That blew through

Lucas777, I'm not sure why you posted that poem in this particular thread?

......and...Cut!......

Right, (turning to the camera), What you've just witnessed, dear audience, is the mix of the seven powerful and potent ingredients necessary for an excellent dish that can be served at home or on the go:

1. Sass
2. Snap
3. Snarkyness
4. Sensitivity
5. Sensation
6. Sensibility
7. Sanity

Measure and add these ingredients to taste and simmer in a service broth over low heat until done. When served, this tasty dish will surely hit the spot.

Now, until next time, please know that we love you. Cheers! ;D

Looks like someone is posting after having a few too many......

Boy did this thread ever take a 'down turn'.   Hopefully it will slip into obscurity with the rest of the nonsense.....

Yeah, exactly what he was on about ???
now I got the attention I wanted-- how long you have to be HIV positive to be a long-term survivor( I asked about it in my post before no one answered) now it makes the poem relevant ;D

Lucas, I believe the concensus is that you have to have lived diagnosed with HIV/AIDS for over 10 years.  Of course, any other LTS'er regular poster feel free to add.
