Trinidad & Tobago HIV immigration issues

A shot in the dark, but has anyone dealt with or know whether there are any restrictions on immigration (work permit) for people living with HIV for Trinidad & Tobago? I did a search on the internet but the rules seem vague.

There are no HIV-specific restrictions per se but you need a medical certificate for a work permit of 12+ months duration, and perhaps bureaucratically for less, to say you are well and fit to work.  A selection of contagious diseases need to be certified as not present but these do not include HIV.  There is an other category but whether HIV is included depends on how much you are paying the doctor. 

I am advised they will be more interested in whether you will be in a job, and indeed a job is required, plus usual sponsoring letters etc from an employer. 

T + T is, in principle, a signatory to the ILO non-discrimination against PLWHA policies.

Also, to get a work permit you a Police certificate of character from your country of residence!

Technically, gay men (erm, "homosexuals and prostitutes") are not permitted to enter the country. An American 2nd hand friend of mine (a Texan as it happens) described the policy as "much like getting into the US army". So I guess don't mince, wear a decent pair of chinos and bemoan your lack of finding a decent wife, hence decision to go travelling.
