Don't know about Kaletra, but the changes you're observing are very typical of lipo.  Are you actually losing weight?  If so, *where* are you losing it?  This could simply be weight loss and not lipo *if* you're losing weight all over your body.  If the weight loss is limited to your face (and/or buttocks, arms, and legs), then it's likely lipo.

Keep an eye on it.  If it continues, you might want to talk to your doctor about switching meds.

sounds like lipo, but yeah 5 months is quick.  Is this the first hiv meds you've been on?  Check out a sculptra program -- what does your doctor say?

hey , thanks for answering back...well i think im losing it all over my body..again ..its hard to say, is it lipo, or is it just me being a hypochondriac and freaking out over nothing..I was 150 in may of last year, then i started to get dizzy alot with the runs..the doc started me on meds when i was about 145. Im now at 138 (which part of the reason im losing weight is i have to be careful with what i eat because my trig. were getting high)..not easy going to the gym as it once was but i still go just so i can put some mass on or at least fight to keep the mass that i already have..the past few days i would be at work and started to realize that i cant sit in once place very long cuz my butt starts to kill like my cushioned chair is like sitting on a slab of wood and digging to my bones.
I'll be honest..im scared..how much longer will it take before i look waste away to  a skeleton?

inmontreal,

Damn, I hear ya all to well. My nightmare was a combination of lipo/weight loss.

Get the doc to also check your testosterone levels and rule that issue out. Next month I get mine done.

What's your drug combo ?

Read some posts from pozniceguy, we seem to have the same problem.
If it helps, check my posting history - look at the lipo posts. There was some kind responses that may help you.

im on Kaletra and two other pills..(forgot the name) one is a blue/greenish diamond and the other is a blue tear drop shape..in any case..i got my report today and my cd4 is up from 305 to 680...but i think thats because i was coming down with a cold that day and my cd4 were running up high..my VL was still undetectible..but i told the attending nurse of the study that im on that i think the next time i see the doc i want to get off of this and change meds..my triglyc. are at 5 point something..so that is pretty high..but she told me no mater what i go on i'll have the same problem of weight loss and lipo. Sp i'll go another time for blood tests on 15th of feb..and if my tryg goes up..i will do my best to convince my doc to change my meds..i tried cutting my food intake and watching what i eat..but at the same time i had no energy ..so im kinda stuck..either i lose weight and look sick but have great cd4..or i eat as much as i want to gain back my weight and have a high Tryg level..

I think many of us have this condition ( Lypo..)  but that it is  exaggerated in some of us.....I was at the worst end of the scale  cat 5+  ...but I have talked with others who gained weight and didn't seem to have any of the  typical LYpo symptoms.....
..about the Trigly... I have an ongoing struggle ..once again some of the meds definitely impact the levels  but so far ..for me.. diet control, medication change, and adding Crestor and Avandia have had practically no effect....   I hope you can find a combination that works for you...

thanks for the advise..well i have a plan..youre right..i have to be careful with what i eat..so no white sugars and high fatty foods..BUT instead im gonna replace my urges for sugar with proteins shake with equal amount of carbs in it..and it doesnt have real sugar in it..It hit me at the gym..i should stop worrying about it and start to do something about it before it gets permanant or worse! I was never the type to freak out or feel sorry for myself till i started the meds..somehow my world got turned upside down..but im back again to my senses (briefly) and will fight this..i'll be back in a month and let you guys know how it goes when i do my blood tests..and if this dont work..you KNOW im gonna look into face fillers..lol

I'm sorry to tell you this but, kaletra and zerit are big known causes in some people to create lipo... also triglicerides will get extremely high and so will your cholesterol... I know because it did it to me.... fortunately after 3 years of constant diarrhea and getting rid of my doctor to get a opinion of another.... I was placed on atripila... the fat is slowly returning to my face and my little pounch belly which is all muscle is begining to go back to normal with much exercise... omega 3 has brought my triglicerides back down and my cholesterol went back to normal almost immediately... my numbers for cd4 were great but, the side effects were many... I'm doing great now... talk with your doctor... and if you do not like the jibber from him or her... seek a replacement...

Hi Montreal

Vancouver here.   I am about 5 months on what sounds to be the same combo.  I am thinking I have been noticing same fat loss just below my eye.  Only on one side,  but also have lost weight too so I am not sure.  I find this extremely frustrating.  Most people I ask dont notice anything different.   So I really cant be sure.  5 months does seem to be a bit soon.
My doctor says I can go on abacavir and that might be better for me (he doesnt notice anything different).

I like the advice of proper diet,  exercise, reducing fats and sugars.  I have really let my reg gym routine slip over the past 5 months.   I see a nutrionist tomorrow.  I also go to acupuncture.  Maybe I can beef this up... dunno

Nice to know at least I am not alone in this worry.

All the best

A long time, my friend. Years. There are *band-aids* for such things as facial wasting. Do not fret too much. (we all tend to fret)
You aren't going to wake up one day and suddenly be a scarecrow.........no skeletal; the new meds harness this extreme effectively.

Don't wanna be a downer but take a case of wasting, double it with 2 weeks of bronchitis and you'll definitely be heading towards Skeletor Land.  Been there, and so not fetching in your early 30's.
