Bad bugs!
« on: February 26, 2011, 04:17:31 pm »
Living in the tropics I have had lots of issues with parasites even before converting about 10 months ago.
This past year, like most years here, I have had the usual diarrhea and fatigue.
There has also been brain fog and dizziness with random pains.
All this I thought was HIV, but thought it odd that it could hit me so hard so early into being a POZ.
Since  around Thanksgiving I have had worse and worse issues and tested positive for Amoebas histolytica.
Treatment after treatment of the common drugs worked for about two days then I was right back where I started.
My ID doctor had me give the University lab a stool specimen and they said it is not amoebas, but Blastocystis hominis. Today while looking for information, I found an interesting site. http://www.badbugs.org/LabTesting.htm
Blastocystis is difficult to diagnose and treat. Often times it is misdiagnosed as amoebas.
Some people who are misdiagnosed get sent to psychologist as they think it is a mental issue.
Since none of the usual meds we have available here in Costa Rica seem to work, we have ordered Nitazoxanide  from India. After months of this issue, waiting two more weeks will be a snap.

The reason I mention this is because if anyone has persistant diarrhea and your doctor can't treat it, you might go to a GOOD lab and look for Blastocystis Hominis. I believe we picked up these bugs in Palm Springs CA.
Be ware, you don't have to live in the jungle to get this stuff.

Good health and happiness,
Hoover and his future husband

When reading the reports of how resistant blastocystis can be, I was worried!
Hopefully the new med will kill the buggers.
As a gay man, I can say that diarrhea is not good for our sex lives.
After years of diarrhea, any bottom would become a top!

Thanks,

What kind of treatment are you looking at?

Here  is the MayoClinic's website info on it

http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/blastocystis-hominis/DS00791

seems to be a somewhat common parasite and they don't know what triggers it.

good luck with finding a treatment

Thanks for the link. We have tried most of the drugs the Mayo lists....
(those drugs don't mix with liquor) >:(
Investigation into the subject shows most drugs are ineffective and symptoms are far worse than diarrhea.
Not that diarrhea isn't bad enough.
Weight loss, fatigue and dizziness are life changing for someone who is very active.

Since our drugs are limited in Costa Rica, we have ordered Nitaxozanide from India.
Until it arrives in two weeks, we will do colloidal silver, oregano oil and grape seed extract to hold them back a little bit. The naturals won't kill the bugs but they can make a little dent.

Cheers from CR,
Hoover and that man
