I'm reading (and hearing) different stories in regard to Egypt in particular. Can you, or can't you, go there on a short-term holiday, or will you be turned away at the border. Does anyone know?

And is the US actually going to allow travellers to visit after January 2010, or ... ?

From what I can ascertain at hivtravel.org Egypt has restrictions for short term <90 days, but they do not physically test you.  They only require testing for residence/work permit applicants.

Miss P: to your knowledge, when you say "Egypt has restrictions for short term <90 days", what kind of restrictions are those? Can you visit the country on vacation?

Mark, you're welcome to go where I stated I took the information and read it yourself.  I would assume it means that technically/legally it's not allowed.  If you are not on HIV meds then since they don't test you then you can just lie on the entry form.  If you are on medications then you need to hide them, and then if they find them and figure out what they're for you'll get put back on the plane.  If that scenario worries you then perhaps you should not travel there.

I'll certainly do that. My apologies for asking.
