Title: Positive Test Results
Post by: PositivelyYours on September 19, 2006, 06:54:26 pm
Hello,

I am new to the HIV scene.  On August 10, 2006, I tested positive for the HIV virus. I have had my first doctors appointment which went relatively well.  I learned after receiving additional labwork that my TCell Count is 359 with a Viral Load of 50,000. Therefore, I could not start a treatment process. This entire HIV thing is scary and sometimes I am a bit confused about it.   The impression that I received from my doctor and other information that I've read is that everyone reacts differently to the virus and its medication.   Is this true?  I mean there must be someone in this entire world who has a solution for the rising number in HIV patients. Surely, the FDA is concerned about the human population or are they?  Are they co-conspirators with the Pharmaceutical Companies to make money?  Is there a cure for this dreaded virus and no one wants to admit it?  Please help me to understand.  I would also like to meet a mentor since I am new to the forum.  Any insight on my subject would be greatly appreciated.

Welcome, PY,

You've come to the right place. This is all very, very new to you. You've taken a good first step by hooking up with a doctor. Developing a good working partnership with your doctor is one of the most important tools for staying well.

Keep a little pad and pen handy so you can jot questions you may want to ask your doctor or for here as well for that matter.

Personally I don't find speculation about causes and cures to be helpful in dealing with living with HIV issues. It's understandable to want those answers, but for the timebeing I would urge you to concentrate on getting some basics down. Like reading the lessons on this site including the one about disclsoure issues.

Give yourself time to get used to this new chapter in your life. Gradually you will come to see HIV is very important but it is not all that your life is going to be about.

You're always welcome here to ask questions or to discuss anything that's on your mind.

Cheers,

Andy,

Thank you so much for the words of encouragement.  It is people like you who make dealing with HIV a lot easier.  I look forward to reading the lessons and learning all I can about this illness.  Again, Thank You!

Hello Positivelyyours, it is Eldon.

I wanted to take a moment to extend a warm WELCOME to you here at the forums. As Andy has said you have come to the right place! Here you will find understanding, encouragement, support, some cries, some laughter, and many of your questions answered relating to HIV/AIDS.

There is a lot of information on this site, and DO feel free to read through the lessons to bring you up to speed. I also DO understand that there is a lot on you mind as it is with anyone. Feel free to come and visit from time-to-time to vent out whatever is going on inside of your mind.

It is unfortunate that you have tested positive. However, it is even more important that you DO know and you can take action about your health. Drink plenty of fluids, work out an exercise routine, change your diet, add a multi-vitamin, get your proper rest, and most of all build you a strong support system.

Again Welcome, and have the BEST Day! We are here for you listening and answering.

Thanks Eldon for the advice.   The few people I have told about my status say that I am taking it better than most people.  I may be HIV positive, but this virus will not dictate my happiness and my zest for life.

Hi PY,

Paul here. I came to this site also within a few weeks of my diagnosis about two years ago. This was my anchor for that first year. I could always come here and post anything at anytime of day or night...from facts and questions to fears and hopes. And I have ALWAYS gotten the response and support I needed. There is always someone here when you need it. You have a doctor and you found this site and you took the step of posting that first message. These are excellent steps and indicators that like so many of us here, step by step you will find your way.

Paul

Hello, PositivelyYours,
Welcome to these forums, most of us arrived the same way here, confused and alarmed to what has happened to us, and, I am sure, you, as I did, will find more help and support than you expected, Please don’t hold back in asking, about any thing that you may be going through or worrying about, someone here has already been there, and will help. It is the same life, but now, with a Bug on board, and just a few adjustments to your life is now necessary, Read the lessons on this site, and other reputable information, look after your self well, and the hill won’t look quite so steep.
All the Best

John(UK)

Hello,

I just want to say 'Thank You' for all the love since becoming a part of the forum.  I feel like I have this new extended family.  I love and care about each one of you and WE ARE NOT GOING TO LET THIS VIRUS DEFEAT US!!! I am a spiritual person and I believe in the word.  I want to encourage each one of us to continue to move around even if you don't feel like it.  I am a firm believer that the mind controls the body - What you think you become.  I appreciate all of you and we will fight this thing until the bitter end. We are bigger than this horrific virus.  I love you guys and girls and lets continue to pray for one another because prayer can change a situation or circumstance.  Take Care!

PositivelyYours
