Reyataz and Prilosec question.
« on: December 08, 2013, 05:42:10 pm »
My husband has been taking Truvada and Isentress. After recent blood work showed his viral load at 1700,the doctors office called and they are removing the isentress and prescribing reyataz instead. Now the dilemma,He has been taking prilosec for several years and in my research I find prilosec should not be co-administered with the reyataz. Some places say it is ok to take it other sites say not to.Any ideas on what we should do?Is another antacid a better choice with the reyataz. He is treatment experienced and has problems getting to undetectable.
Thanks so much
Candy

I take Truvada & Reyataz!   My Dr. says it's ok to take the prilosec for 3 days but then I have to stop for awhile.

Prilosec reduces the level of Reyataz significantly, and it isrecommended  not to take both together. This is in the package insert for Reyataz.

If it has to be Prilosec, a 20mg dose 12 hours before the Reyataz, and perhaps 400mg rather than 300mg of Reyataz, is sometimes used with caution.

Thank you so much Newt.I appreciate all of your wisdom and help through out the past couple years.Between the prilosec and the procardia I have to wonder if they may be part of the reason his meds have failed so many times.
Thank you
Susan

No Candy I'm not on the Norvir.   I take all my meds in one dose in the morning.  If I need the priolosec for a few days I take it in the evening so their is a 12 hr gap.
