Title: Got my first lab results.

I had my first appointment with the Infectious Disease specialist today. I felt immediately comfortable with him, so that's a good thing.

My CD4 is 450. My CD4 % is 22 and my viral load is 21,000. So not bad, happy I don't have to start meds. I go back in 3 months for more tests to see how I'm doing. The doctor said it's just the first test, and since I am newly infected (I am pretty sure November 2009 was my seroconversion) we need a couple more blood test results to see what my trend is.

My urate test came back a bit high (I need to cut down on the martinis and fast food LOL).

Also my tests show that my body accepted the Hep A vaccine no problem, but doesn't seem to want to accept the Hep B vaccine (I had the Hep B vaccine in high school and in 2008). They gave me a double dose of the Hep B Vaccine today.

Still coming to terms with the fact that I am HIV positive, but it helps knowing there are forums like this with lots of valuable information and amazing people to reach out to. Also I am very thankful that I have a friend that is willing to come to my appointments with me and is learning all she can about this disease so she can be there for me.

Good news on you're levels. I'm sure its a relief...

Reasonable figures there Jack. Here's hoping future tests reflect a good trend.

It's not uncommon for HIV positive people to have some difficulty presenting a decent level of immunity following HBV vaccination. You may have to have an extended schedule of injections.

hi jack,

that's good news regarding your numbers.

you def need to watch the fast food & martinis though lol. don't tax your body...everything in moderation. also take this time to educate yourself on staying healthy, mentally & physically.

You're doing well. And having a doc with whom you feel a good connection is one of the best tools you can have for staying healthy. It's important to be able to ask questions AND to get answers.
