Yeah, I got jumped on for saying I thought the former governor of Hawaii was a lesbian.  So, lez all be careful.  Ok, Will & Grace used that one, so it can't be offensive, right?  I don't think the Bieb has grass on the field yet.  At 16, I don't think he's been through puberty.  It will be interesting to see him in 5 or 10 years to see if he looks more masculine--if he is still around, which the odds are against.  And, this country is so funny.  We love sex, even with teenagers like Justin and Miley, but we're also so prudish.  I'm as liberal as they come, but I don't think a 16 year-old should be doing shirtless photo-shoots.  Especially one who doesn't seem like he's gone through puberty yet.  But, then again, the age of consent in most states is 16.

He's 16 why can't he do a shirtless photo for teenage fans?  This has been going on for decades.

(Thinking of 60's 70's Tiger Beat.....)

Yeah its kinda of creepy for old gay men to be looking.

Boy's got a 100 million now.  Maybe he'll pull a Jodie Foster, Brooke Shields, Emma Watson and get himself a college education soon.

If Justin had been around in the early '70s, I probably would have been into him. Our choice of teenage eye candy in those days was Donny Osmond and yes, I was a fan. A drooling fan at that. I was a fan of Marie too when she came on the scene. I don't recall Donny (or Marie lol) ever posing shirtless though and I don't suppose it would have been the done thing back then.

That child still looks like a DIKE to me  :D :D :D

You find that terminology appropriate for same sex lovin' womyn?

You know, this is one area that has always been a minefield for me. I've known women who hated the term lesbian and preferred to be called a gay woman - my sister is one such woman. And I've known women who hated the term gay women because they thought the word gay "belonged" to the men. I've known women who embraced the term dyke, and others who took it as a serious insult, no matter who used it. The list goes on and on.

It seems to be partially a regional and/or personal thing as to which term is considered acceptable and who can use which term and who cannot. At least where men are concerned, there seems to be no argument over the term gay men and anyone can use it.

For myself, a bi woman, I don't mind being called a dyke. I never liked the term lesbian because it brings back memories of insults like lezzie or lezbo. These words were always said with contempt, but not so much dyke, at least in my experience. I don't mind being called gay either, although I will usually put the person right and tell them I'm bi, thankyouverymuch!

But back to Justin - leave the poor kid alone and leave him to the tweenie and teen crowd, where he belongs. It's pretty creepy when you over 21s drool over him. At least have the decency to do it in private, if you gotta do it.

Its like any other group that experiences discrimination.  (Everyone belongs to one or two, it seems.)

So you can use the pejorative term with each other.  The group lets trusted outsiders use it in some circumstances.

Its offensive to use it if the group hasn't obviously given you permission.

Its probably just easiest not to use the term unless you are member of the group addressing another member.

Yeah, yeah, I understand all that about discrimination etc. What I was talking about is that there seems to be no "safe" term to use for women who have sex with women like there is with the men. As long as the word gay isn't said with a snarl, you're usually ok. It's not like that with women, at least not in my experience.

I assume you mean Susan Dey from The Partridge Family.  Yeah, she was hot...all the way through that lawyer show she did a couple of years back (which I can't think of the name of right now).  I wasn't a huge Shaun fan myself...my sister was, and I got toted along to see him at The Omni (about a 10-15,000 seater).

That's right, she was also called Susan in the Partridge family.

Parker Stevenson was hot too.

One of my all-time favourites has been Valerie Bertinelli from One Day at a Time and she's still hot. She's the only reason I watch the new sit-com Hot in Cleveland. I originally watched the first episode just because I grew up in the Greater Cleveland area, but once I found out she was in it I've watched all of them so far. I think this coming week's will be the last of the series. The show is only so-so, but I like watching her, she's cute as a button even now. Betty White is funny too, she's probably the funniest character in the show.

Mmmmmm.....

We all agree that kid stars today are marketed as sex symbols now more than ever.  Publicity turns into increased revenue.  I am sure little girls AND boys go nuts over JB and in a few years from now there will be a new one to take his place.

My first celebrity crush developed when I saw the movie, The Computer Wore Tennis Shoes.  Kurt Russell was my idol and I wanted to have his babies.  He was 18 years old when that film was made so I guess his meat was legal.

I wasn't sure, so I just looked it up on imbd. Here in the UK, we're on season one, which only had ten episodes and yes, this next week's is the last for us. In the US, you're on season two, which will have 12 episodes as far as I can make out, with the last one airing on May 5th.

agreed. and with the forums being so easily googled, I hope this thread doesn't fuel the fires of the image of gay men being pedophiles. It's one thing to discuss crushes/teen-idols from years past; but oggling current shirtless teen boys is pretty creepy.

I much prefer the "bear" threads, at least then the discussion centers around grown-ups and not jail bait. ;)

This has always been true in my experience as well, it seems like each group of women that I knew had different identifiers.  To me dyke was probably the most offensive term if uttered by heterosexuals, but by gay men and women was completely acceptable.  A lot of the younger crowd seems to prefer queer but to me that term is extremely offensive because that's what my grandparents used in a highly negative connotation of all same sex lovin' folks.  There really is no winning if you're not familiar with someone's preferences.  Oh and as mellow as I am about people making stupid commentary the way to make my blood boil is to have a straight man call me a faggot.  I've punched someone square in the face for doing just that.

Alas, my dear you are not a gay man so you don't have a clue how gay men (often) employ the word "dyke" (certainly if laid out in ALL CAPS) -- sometimes it's used in a queer power manner and not offensive, but I'd say at least 80% of the time it's intended to demean.  It's no huge secret that in large, urban gay scenes the gay men do not mix with the gay women.

One of my best friends is a lesbian, and I do use the word dyke with her, but it's always in a joke type manner and I wouldn't do it in a larger group setting.  Kind of like how she would use the word "fag" in a larger group of gay men, but she could do so with me.  But yes, I'm sure it varies like that and probably regionally.

the way to make my blood boil is to have a straight man call me a faggot.  I've punched someone square in the face for doing just that.

When I first moved to the UK, it felt really strange to hear people call ciggies "fags". I'm used to it now and use it myself, but never in reference to a man.

Fair comment. However, the gay men I know on the Rock use the term dyke, but not in a demeaning manner. The women use it too. The gay men and women tend to mix around here, maybe because the gay community here is fairly small as many young gay men and women move to the mainland as soon as they go off to university or otherwise become independent from their parents. But I have seen the separation in the cities in the States. I belonged to the GLBT group at KSU (Kent Gay-Lesbian Foundation, if I remember correctly) and while most of the members mixed with each other, there were factions of separatists of both men and women.

Anyway, I doubt very much that Dennis meant it in a demeaning way.

But back to Valerie - while googling her, I found some references to her having a battle with her weight for a while - but even the photos of her when she had some extra pounds were still hot. She's all woman and a beautiful one at that, even when "fat". I've been in love lust with her since her One Day at a Time days and a bit of extra padding didn't bother me in the least.

It is early Sunday morning. CaptCarl sits at his computer, bleary-eyed and waiting for the caffeine and Ritalin to kick in. He logs on to AM to see what his friends are up to, and notices this thread by Miss P. He is fond of Miss P's thread, because they usually make him laugh. Imagine his surprise when he opens the link, and sees Teh Biebs sans shirt.

Not a nice thing to do to me so early in the day, as once something is seen, it cannot be unseen.

Alas, my dear you are not a gay man so you don't have a clue how gay men (often) employ the word "dyke" (certainly if laid out in ALL CAPS) -- sometimes it's used in a queer power manner and not offensive,

Miss P what do u want me to say? I sorry, if I was offensive to you in any way  :-* I won't don't it again  :-[
just put on ur stiletto heels and riding crop in hand, and I'll get on all 4's NAKED and all will be forgiven  :D

Its best to open Miss P's and Matty's links using one eye so you still have a good eye while the other one is healing .

I think it was in a Gawker comment that I read that JB was the most successful anthropological doctoral thesis in the history of Smith College  ;D I guess that vid blows that little theory out of the water, huh?

I remember shirtless pics of David Cassidy and Bobby Sherman when I was a tween; though I felt kinda meh about the former, I despised the latter (though my sister, now a lesbian, adored him). I was much more into Cat Stevens, myself.

It should be noted, however, that these guys were all over 18 at the time. There is something definitively kidporn-esque about the OP, and I'm not known for my puritanical POV  ;)

As to the whole lez/dyke thing: context is king here. I'd use the word dyke in front of my sister if I were discussing an especially butch specimen of the species, and she'd hardly be offended. But it's not a word I'd toss about as casually as, say, faggot in mixed company. On the other hand, Pride parades are generally led by a contingency of Dykes on Bikes and always have been. I really don't understand the whole pearl-clutching regarding its use in this thread.

I had my picture taken with Dykes on Bikes at Chicago pride when I was 24 or 25. It was like a rite of passage  :)

agreed. and with the forums being so easily googled, I hope this thread doesn't fuel the fires of the image of gay men being pedophiles. It's one thing to discuss crushes/teen-idols from years past; but oggling current shirtless teen boys is pretty creepy.

Good point -- but nobody here is oogling Bieber.

And Miss P started it off with "vile" -- which either means Bieber or the media machine that made that vile video.

au contraire mon frère!  There's been plenty of under-age Bieber lust on these forums the past several months.  And I must say it's been rather revealing.

We all agree that kid stars today are marketed as sex symbols now more than ever.

I dunno how new it is.  Those 60's 70's and 80's teens were marketed as sex symbols.  The public accepts a bit more all the time.  I didn't think the Bieber video above was all that provocative.  Just a teeny bop star walking around with his shirt off.

Handlers know how far to push it to get the biggest return.  Bieber seems to be letting himself be manufactured to the greatest audience possible.

Taylor Momsen said fuck it all and became a tarty "edgy" rocker before 18 and her career has hardly taken off.

Too much sexy, too young, for marketing, it basically turns people off in my opinion.

Then when they are 18, 19, early 20's they do the scandalous shit to breathe life into the career.

Referring back to the auto-tune thread, it just a bonus if some of them can sing and dance well.

Maybe not, but of course we have no way of knowing who's ogling. We do have our second Bieber thread in a month, both with more than a bit of a creep factor. Curious that an androgynous lad will illicit so much chatter from grown men. I don't get it.

You're missing the point . We're talking about grown men on this forum making comments about a teenage boy.

I'm dense. I thought it was mostly derisive of him.  Or cutting on some hypothetical lecherous adults who might be turned on by him.
I really can't imagine he has any adult fans.

Maybe I am.  I dont remember any grown men saying they are turned on by him.  I thought it was all commentary about how either how silly and harmless he is, or how weirdly girly.  But many of the teen beat idols over the years were girly boys. Nothing new.

The sexualization of kids is nothing new.

There are plenty of perverts in this world who will slobber over kids in bathing suits and shirtless boys, it's always been that way and likely always will be.

Read the first Bieber thread dearie. Oh and what's weird is that there would be any comments at all. We're not talking about ten year old girls thumbing through a Teen Beat magazine.

You saw the clip Leno dragged up of Mathew Morrison in a "gay boy band" comedy routine.

http://www.hollywoodlife.com/2011/04/08/matthew-morrison-jay-leno-gay-boy-band/

Its not just the gay guys discussing Bieber.  He's a really huge star and all sorts of commentary about him out there these days.  Lots of talk about him in European tabloids too.

Since this Bieber isn't made for me I agree that I felt a little creepy watching Miss P's video.  But he doesn't do anything scandalous.

The french are always turning out films about adolescent sexuality and they don't make me feel creepy if I watch.  I saw the Twilight films and didn't feel perverted.

There is something a little unsettling about Bieber but clearly only adults feel this cause billions of kids adore him.

Oh never mind. You just don't get it, or you're making excuses. Next up the Jonas Brothers. All though they are getting a bit long in the tooth.

Joe Jonas is 21 now and no longer looks like a child -- facial hair and everything now.
