Welcome to Do I Have HIV?

Welcome to the "Do I Have HIV?" POZ forum.

This special section of the POZ forum is for individuals who have concerns about whether or not they are HIV positive. Individuals are permitted to post up to three questions or responses in this forum.

Ongoing participation in the "Do I Have HIV?" forum (posting more than three questions or responses) requires a paid subscription, with secure payments made via PayPal.

A seven-day subscription is $9.99, a 30-day subscription is $14.99 and a 90-day subscription is $24.99.

Anyone who needs to post more than three messages in the "Do I Have HIV?" forum -- including past, present and future POZ Forums members -- will need to subscribe, with secure payments made via PayPal.

Testing/symptoms

Risky exposure in Feb.06 Condom broke with female who status is unknown. Having common symtoms yet to be explained.
Tested negative on all tests:
Elisa HIV-1 (ABs) 2,4,8,12, and 17 weeks post exposure
RNA PCR (ultrasensitve) not detected <50 co/ml at 5 weeks
Pro viral DNA (Qual) not detected at 17 weeks
Elisa HIV-2 (ABs) at 17 weeks.
Most of the tests were paid for out of pocket. Doctors have no answers and suggest that i continue to test beyond 6 months because of symptoms. I have no clue as to what to think, but I'm very concerns. Any comments will be greatly accepted.

A negative test at or after 12 weeks post exposure is considered conclusive.  If your doctor is advising you to test out to 6 months, it may be time to get another doctor as he should know that the vast majority of those infected will test positive at 6 WEEKS.

On top of that, a broken condom with someone you KNOW to be hiv positive is (for the insertive partner) a very low risk with vaginal intercourse.

As far as symptoms go, once an hiv infection progresses enough to be causing them, you would test positive.  Your symptoms have been going on for a long time yet you continue to test negative.  Whatever is causing them, it isn't hiv.

Find a doctor who can get to the bottom of your ailments.  You are hiv negative.

With six negative ELISAs and two undetectable viral load tests out to seventeen weeks, you couldn't get more hiv negative. You ARE hiv negative. Symptoms mean nothing - only the tests will reveal your status and your tests have revealed that you are hiv negative.

If your doctor can't be bothered to look any further than hiv testing for your symptoms, then maybe it's time to find a different doctor. You have reliably tested hiv negative and it's time to explore other reasons behind your symptoms.

You are hiv negative, without doubt. If nothing else, the undetectable viral load tests at five and seventeen weeks prove that.

One more time - you are hiv negative.

I just read about rapid progressors. I was wondering if my conlcuisons are correct, that it takes them longer to convert and they are symtomatic after ARS.

What is significant about rapid progressors is that instead of dropping off after seroconversion, their viral loads remain high without treatment, resulting in a rapid progression to AIDS in around 1-4 years.

Seroconversion is not delayed.

Why this concerns you mistifies me.  Still chasing hiv?

Just trying to make sure that all bases are covered. Chasing Hiv? Actually I'm still trying to rule it out. But not giving it as much attention like 6 months ago.

Cobal916, you've reliably tested negative. There is nothing more we can do for you here. Think about seeking a mental health professional to help you move on.
