AMG 2011 Seattle Hotel Suggestions
« on: November 21, 2010, 10:31:41 am »
Hello All,

Please take a few moments and assist me in researching hotels for AMG 2011 in Seattle, Wa.  Post your suggestions below, along with a link directing me and other members to the hotel website for review.

From this list, I will contact the sales department to request a group rate, and then present a few from which we can all choose from.

Please assist me with this as soon as possible.  I'd like to secure a hotel and dates within the next couple of months if possible.

I have always stayed at the Crown Plaza when I visit Seattle.  It is a downtown location so that puts you in walking distance of many of the attractions that most tourist enjoy.  Of course, if one wishes to venture to Capitol Hill or Queen Anne, a cab ride would be recommended.  The hotel may be in a position to offer discounts.  Its clean, large, and easy to locate.

Hi Coordinator

Here are two possibilities, chosen simply for location, haven't stayed at either one.

Silver Cloud Inn Broadway
http://www.silvercloud.com/our%20hotels.htm

Homewood Suites Convention Center
http://www.vfmii.com/exc/aspquery?command=invoke&ipid=1096265&ids=43059

RAB

Edit to add:  my partner reminded me that when Jan was here, we went to Seattle and stayed at the Silver Cloud, Lake Union.  While that location wouldn't work for us, the hotel and rooms were very nice, so I'd assume the same would be true for their Broadway property.

Also you may want to avoid the first week in August, I believe that's when Seattle celebrates SeaFare and the city is usually packed.  (I tried to find the exact dates for SeaFare 2011 but wasn't successful)

Here are a couple hotels I found in downtown Seattle by searching on Expedia and reading the reviews.

The first is a Doubletree, which is owned by Hilton. If I remember correctly, Hilton is know to be GLBT friendly.
http://doubletree1.hilton.com/en_US/dt/hotel/SEAACDT-Doubletree-Arctic-Club-Hotel-Seattle-Downtown-Washington/index.do

This one looks nice, is near a lot of fun stuff, and is close to the "Light Rail" which brings you to and from the airport (good for everyone flying in). It is independently owned and kind of a boutique hotel.
http://www.mayflowerpark.com/

The next one I found is the Grand Hyatt Seattle. "This property is affiliated with the International Gay & Lesbian Travel Association (IGLTA) and welcomes lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) guests." - Expedia. It also has a nice fitness center/spa and lots of good amenities.
http://www.grandhyattseattle.com/

This one is centrally located, has good basic amenities, and doesn't seem too expensive for just one room, so a group rate would probably be really nice. The ratings were also quite excellent.

Okay, so there's a few ideas. That should get you start, AMG Coordinator. I don't want to overwhelm you with 10,000 places to investigate and call, as I'm sure plenty of other people will chip in with their own ideas. However, if you do want me to find some more hotels, feel free to PM me and I'll do some more research! Always glad to help ;D

@ Anniebc--LOL and I think if you could have found someway to get it out of the lobby you'd have swiped it.   ;)

Coordinator:

This might be a more economical option.  It's located just a short distance from the Westlake station, is in the downtown core, but quite a distance from Capitol Hill/First Hill (where most of the clubs and stuff are that might be appealing).

I just put in some random dates for next August and saw rates as low as $139.00 (AAA rate) for weekdays, higher for weekends.

just a thought,   dtwpuck, used to live in Seattle.  He posted as recent as Oct 31.  Maybe someone could contact him and he could offer some great suggestions.

You got that right and it was a beautiful Pig.
I know very little about Seattle, and even though the Silver Cloud hotel was a nice hotel,I think something in the City center would suit the AMG better.

Phil...The Mediterranean Inn looks very nice and the prices seem fair, it's definately worth considering.

Wut up with this:

By popular demand we have maintained the majority of our rooms with
windows that open to capture the fresh air of Seattle, therefore,
only a portion of our guestrooms have air-conditioning.

So most of the rooms have no AC? While Im all for the fresh Seattle Air, if it gets above 72 in Seattle in August then Im going to have to have A/C>

I'm with dearest Wills on this one......

My days of "roughing it" ended after my stint in Desert Storm.  I must have A/C -- if required, I'll forgo room service, but that is where I draw the line.   ;D

Yes, a lounge in the lobby is an absolute must. I like being able to stumble down into a Bloody Mary at 8am. In my pajamas if need be. (Hell I wore my PJs into the bar in Boston)

Hmmmmmm I found a few hotels that seem interesting. As this is my first go around I am not sure what you guys are looking for in a hotel. Odyssey mentioned the Grand Hyatt which looks nice. Also I found the Hotel Andra which looks to be in an ideal location. I'm just happy to meet everyone so A/C or no A/C I'll be there!

Yes, there needs to bee a Gathering place for use all to get together.  But then Jan, WillyWump, RAB and POZNiceguy know I'm easy.  As long as it's comfortable.

I'll want to walk around the 64 grounds where I performed in 1970 and see the sights.  There must be a lot more to see from when I was last there in the 1990's. Yeah, I'm 61 and showing my age.

Hey Guys and Gals

The problem with the Mediterranean (sp?) would be it's location.  It's at the base of Queen Anne Hill  (remember Seattle is the City of seven hills) and while it's close to Seattle Center and getting into the downtown core would be easy (pricey?) via the Monorail, getting to Capitol Hill (where most of the clubs and nightlife are) would involve either a taxi or multiple changes via public transport.

I really think we want to focus our search on either Capitol Hill or the downtown core.  (Even though it might be more spendy.)

If I knew how to do a google map I could show you, but alas I don't.   ::)

If the coordinator is still Dennis he's very good at negotiating us good group rates.

RAB   ;D

And yes it's true the Wumpster did wear his pjs into the bar, and street, and other members rooms in Boston.

I agree on the A/C thing. I feel it is a necessity. With the humidity level in Seattle and us headed there in August, which is usually a hot month, I doubt going without a/c is a good idea. Personally, I have asthma and any level of heat above about 70-75 or humidity when it is warmer sends my breathing south. So I would definitely request we pick a hotel with A/C!

I agree on the A/C deal - I didn't catch that - oops, my bad....

Oh, and Dennis is serving as AMG Coordinator - so hopefully, he will be able to come negotiate some good rates....

Thanks RAB on the tips about location.

From the people I know in Seattle none of them have air conditioning, so it might be slightly difficult to find a hotel that does have it.  Last year in particular Seattle was having some record heat which is why I know about the lack of air conditioning.

That's not accurate. But the part about last year's record heat, now that part is.  Lord was it hot.   :o

Hey all, I'm new to the forums here so I dont know what an AM Gathering is
But I live in Seattle.
Any place you pick downtown is fine.  I'm familiar with most hotels and I think you will be okay.
If you have any specific questions I can help.

Cheers

Yes, a lounge in the lobby is an absolute must. I like being able to stumble down into a Bloody Mary at 8am. In my pajamas if need be. (Hell I wore my PJs into the bar in Boston)

I don't have PJ's, would black underwear be acceptable?   ;D  Have the best day

Yeah, I don't have pjs either. Ask Willy, we roomed together in Boston. I just sleep in my underwear. He certainly didn't seem to mind, but somehow I sense that if I just wandered into the bar in nothing but a pair of briefs there might be an issue and I'd somehow end up in handcuffs and y'all would have to bail me out of jail!
