can i change times
« on: April 16, 2010, 02:57:29 am »
hie everyone

i started meds on 26 November last year. im taking one combivir twice a day and one efavirenz at night. my problem is lately im finding it hard to keep to my dosage time of 10.30 pm coz im falling asleep before then and although i have an alarm on my phone for both morning and evening doses, at night sometimes i dont hear it or i hear it switch off and fall back asleep again without taking the dose. usually i wake up later maybe around midnight and thats when i take the dose.  (my boyfriend tries to wake me up but he'll be sleepy too so after the first few nudges he drops off to sleep too).
my question is can i change the times i take the pills. in the morning its 7.30 and the night dose is at 10.30pm. can i change that to maybe 9pm? since i always awake at that time. the reason i was taking it at 10.30 was coz of the awful drunkenness and dizziness and feeling hot all over. so i was taking it as late as possible so i just sleep off the side effects. im pretty sure by now the effects have gone coz when i wake up at night i dont feel them...
thanks

When I was on meds for my pregnancy my doctor told me not to worry at all about a 2 hour window period.  So presumably you changing to 9 won't make any difference.  If you're worried then why don't you stagger it half an hour each night till you get to 9.

Hi Tendai, I think when you're on twice a day dosing you should take the pills twelve hours apart.  I would take the evening dose at a time that is easiest to deal with the effect of efavirenz, and then adjust the morning time for a twelve hour interval.

If you are changing times by an hour or two, it shouldn't matter much, especially considering your current schedule.  If you were to make a big change, like moving the efavirenz to morning, you would want to take the dose earlier; for example take it at 6:00 pm one day, then noon the next, and then morning.
It's a complex world

Efavirenz has a long half-life, meaning it stays in your system for a long time. If you want to change your timing by a few hours this is not a problem.
