Not feeling 100%
« on: September 06, 2010, 01:29:51 pm »
I think im just getting paranoid to be honest or just stressed out and a bit run down as i run my own business 7 days a week and im in the 5th month of a six month holiday season. I have hardly been out for a drink for months but 4 days ago had a bit of a wild night out drank to much only slept 3 hours went to work (not a clever idea at 49 yo)had a couple more drinks at lunchtime then came home. Stupidly i forgot my atripla pill first missed dose since i started last december and now have convinced myself im getting sick . I keep breaking out in cold sweats but have no temperature . Ive just been to see the local doc not my hiv specialist just to have my chest listened to as i was in hospital last summer with pnuemonia. He said lungs were clear but blood pressure was 130 over 95 .
I have bought some natural herb pills from the local chemist seem to be relaxing me a bit , but im unsure whether i should drop in at my local hospital to see my specialist for a blood test to check all is well as im not due one untill october.
My problem is i dont really feel that unwell just not 100% and sleeping a bit more than usual and dont want to feel as if im making a fuss over nothing . Any thoughts.Regards Tommy.

Sounds like you're working very hard, which can wear anybody down.  I also find I don't bounce back after a few drinks anymore.

missing one dose will not be your downfall
(>95% adherence results in optimal treatment);
but don't do it again  ;)

after I had PCP (and I remained sick for many yrs) I was really nervous about everything that seemed wrong with my body. When I'd be out in public (rarely) and someone nearby would sneeze or cough, I just "knew" it had signed my death warrant. ROFL :D So sometimes it takes a while for the paranoria of being very sick to fade away. You obviously went out and overdid things for a couple of days, and at 49 (i'll be there myself in march) you're just paying the price for acting like a 20-something.  ;D

I wouldn't worry too much about the one missed dose.

Make sure that the herb you got for relaxing does not affect the HIV meds, some OTC herbal products can, such as St. John's Wort and Gingko.

I actually drank a little last night for the first time in many years, had a couple of vodka drinks along with a glass of wine, and I felt like SHIT this morning. It just goes to show that either age (48) or just not being used to it or whatever but something has made me more sensitive.

I normally have a couple glasses of wine and/or beer with no problem but I avoid the heavier stuff and after last night will continue to do so.

One must be extra kind to one's liver when one has HIV and is taking meds for it (many of which are processed by the liver).

I'm craving a big cup of dark strong coffee, better head to Starbucks ASAP.

during our labor day cookout yesterday, I was drinking. By the time I got to that third Corona (w/lime, of course!) and was staggering around the grill, laughing and waiting for the kabobs to finish up, I decided I had had enough. LOL I did feel rather decadent though washing down my meds at dinner with the last of the beer.

Somebody really needs to take me out, I would be such a cheap date. ROFL

working 7 days a week and partying all night?  man don't you know that 45 years old is the cut off point and if you are going to party all night you have to cut back  a days work?  ;D Hubby has missed 3 single doses of Atripla ( several months apart) with no ill effects. He has also taken a double dose a few times when he gets forgetful or tired and forgets which pill box is morn/supper/ evening. Law of averages takes control here, you know.  :D Inchlingblue is telling you right that some of the  herbal stuff can screw up your Atripla..... Some really bad.

Atripla label here:
http://www.atripla.com/

Taking ATRIPLA with St. John's wort or products containing St. John's wort is not recommended as it may cause decreased levels of ATRIPLA, increased viral load, and possible resistance to ATRIPLA or cross-resistance to other anti-HIV drugs.

This list of medicines is not complete. Discuss with your healthcare provider all prescription and non-prescription medicines, vitamins, or herbal supplements you are taking or plan to take.

some people even react differently than others.  If Hubby takes gufenesin ( musinex)   it reacts with his Atripla and he pees a lot of blood. He even quit all his meds except for the Atripla to see if that was the one.  Start gufenesin,  start peeing blood.  stop gaufenesin, stop peeing blood.  Doctors and pharmacist said they never heard of that happening before. So some people do have odd ball reactions too.

I know the feeling of feeling like things may be wrong.  For the last few days, I've had this awful back pain.  I've had herniated discs and had back surgery before and that was the worst pain.  I've wondered what I've done to strain my back this time.  It isn't all day long--comes and gos.  Of course, I start worrying whether this is pneumonia again or something else.  When I had bacterial pneumonia, I had really severe pain in my back and side that never went away.  Also, my lungs sounded perfected clear when I had pneumonia.  I was told later this was due to it being so compacted that I didn't have the normal wheezing and cracking.  Plus, I felt sick like I had the flu.

I haven't felt sick this time like that and the pain goes away, so I feel like I've just done something to my back even though I have no idea what I did.  I went to my brother who is a chiropractor tonight and he said my back was really off and my hips.  He asked me whether I've had any breathing problems.  Well, that really scared me, because he checked me back when I did have pneumonia and saw the side the pneumonia was in was off--my ribs were sticking out further on that side or something like that.  So, he has scared me even more.  His partner, the doctor, checked my lungs and all clear tonight.  I'm not even sure whether you can get pneumonia without feeling really crappy and like you're sick.

This virus does make me wonder about every ache and pain--especially not being on meds and my last % at 20--where it was when I got sick last time.  I just start noticing everything.  For example, since my back has been hurting my urine stays really yellow like I'm dehydrated no matter how much water I drink.  And, it smells strong.  I've been having those episodes of breaking out in a cold sweat.  It is probably just anxiety.  However, it causes me to wonder whether there is something going on.  It is all probably nothing and I've just done something to my back and maybe the heating pad has caused me to be dehydrated.  It can drive a person crazy.  After getting sick before, it causes me to worry that something can hit at any time.  All I know is that I've never had pain like this except when I had back surgery and pneumonia.  But, like I said, the pain from pneumonia was worse and never went away.  And, I felt sick and wasn't eating much when I had pneumonia.  I actually don't remember having breathing problems until I had to go to the ER.  Like you, I find myself wondering whether to go to the doc just to be on the safe side.  It would probably be good to have a follow-up chest x-ray just to make sure all looks healed and good.  The other part of me says I'm making too much of this and would just waste money and time going to the doc.  However, I would hate to wish I had gone if something is wrong.  You should get things checked out if you don't feel right.
