Old Gel Capsule Kaletra vs New Tablet Kaletra?
« on: February 01, 2007, 01:35:50 pm »
Hi Ya'll

Question. I have heard several people on the old kaletra (gel capsule) telling me that it use to cause them to get fat in all different parts of their bodies and other side effect which made Kaletra a nightmare. Supposely the newer tablet form is more tolerable with less side effects. Is this true? Is there anyone here who made the swtich from old to new?

I already answered this for you in your other thread about it:  Yes, there is no contest between the two.  I have used both.   The old gel cap sucks ass.  The new one rawks in comparison.

The old gel capsule has been replaced by the new tablet formulation.
As far as I know only the tablet and oral solution is available in the US now.

better or worse?  ???  it really depends on your body's ability to adapt

Thank guys.

As much as I trust my doctor and her knowledge of meds, it is alot different to hear if from people who are actually taking the meds.

I took both formulations and frankly I didn't notice much difference.  I had diarrhea from both though perhaps it decreased slightly with the newer form... then again everything gives me diarrhea.

As far as your "fat in all different parts of their bodies" comment can you be more specific?  Do you mean lipo or just some mild bloating in the abdominal region?

I took both. The caplets are FAR better than geltabs as far as side effects go for me. I still have some minimal GI effects, but NOTHING like the geltabs. I will refrain from being graphic, but am surprised that there is still any porcelain left on the toilet.

Both are still available, so make sure the caplets are specified. I just had to switch pharmacies in Jan with new insurance, and both were choices offered.

Yeah, buy some immodium over the counter.  If you find that you need it with every dose (I do, in fact I had to take 5mg twice a day on Kaletra) then request a prescription for loperamide which ADAP will fund.  It's just a prescription version of immodium.
