Title: I am OK-I am scared to death
Post by: scared72 on October 08, 2006, 09:26:16 pm
Hi All:

First of all I thank you all for your great service.   I really appreciate all the info you provide.

9 weeks back I had safe sex unknowingly with a hiv positive person.  Immediately 1 week after exposure I started to develop swollen lymph nodes behind my ears and then 3 weeks later I had the following symptom

Week 1-Aug 7th exposure......the guy and I deep kissed, he rimmed me and he dry humped me
Week 2-Aug 14th----Swollen lymph node behind ears.
Week 4-Aug 30th-Swollen lymph nodes subscided by the following occured.

Diaherrea, nausea, vomiting, no fever, no sore throat, rash and rash is there even today.  They are no all over body but only on chest and back and they are very small, scattered.

Week 4, day 28 and day 35 I got tested for hiv (DNA PCR and RNA test) both these tests came out negative.

Then I tested ever week aftert that

week 5-negative
week 6-negative
week 7-negative
week 8-negative
week 9-negative

Based on tests I have had so far, I am ok to think I am negative.   I was so depressed I could not get up from bed fro 2 week, week 4-6....I went to depression medication and also medication was prescribed for anxiety.

I am very scared and now week 8 onwards I have pain under my armpits, one side of groin, though I had similar incidence in the past(I had hernia surgery) and also I feel as if my lymph nodes near my shoulder baldes are poppping out....None of the swollen is visible........I press on all of these areas......as I am such a hypochondriac.

Please help me understand what i should do........I really appreciate it.

Read the "Welcome" thread. Symptoms or the lack of symptoms mean nothing when it comes to HIV. If you had protected sex, then testing wasn't warranted. Now for all the extreme testing, PCR testing is not approved for diagnostic testing.  I am such a hypochondriac. Yes, I do believe you are. If you are having all the symptoms you say you are, see your doctor.

Scared, please keep all your posts in your own thread and do not post in others threads.

scared,

You haven't had a risk of hiv infection in any way, shape or form. Dry humping - no risk. Kissing - no risk. Rimming - no risk.

Your excess testing over a no risk event is truly breathtaking. What a waste of time and money. You are as hiv negative as a person could get - STOP testing.

Along with reading the Welcome Thread (http://forums.poz.com/index.php?topic=220.0) and following the Lessons links found there, here what you need to know to keep yourself hiv free. Although I would like to say that if the activities you engaged in freak you out to the point that you go overboard on testing, maybe you should just stick to masturbation until you get your head sorted out.

You need to be using condoms for anal or vaginal intercourse, every time, no exceptions until such time as you are in a securely monogamous relationship where you have both tested for ALL STIs together. To agree to have unprotected intercourse is to consent to the possibility of being infected with a sexually transmitted infection.

Have a look through the condom and lube links in my signature line so you can use condoms with confidence.

Anyone who is sexually active should be having a full sexual health care check-up, including but not limited to hiv testing, at least once a year and more often if unprotected intercourse occurs.

If you aren't already having regular, routine check-ups, now is the time to start. As long as you make sure condoms are being used for intercourse, you can fully expect your routine hiv tests to return with negative results. Don't forget to always get checked for all the other sexually transmitted infections as well, because they are MUCH easier to transmit than hiv.

Use condoms for intercourse and you will avoid hiv infection. It really is that simple!

And btw, you are in NO position to give advice on this forum. I'm going to delete the poor advice you left in another thread.

Thank you very much both of you.  I really appreciate.   I apologize for posting comments on other thread.   I heard PCR test is no FDA approved for reasons that it is overly sensitive and can give false positives, can be expensive.   Labcorp says it is 99% accurate for detection of hiv virus after 28 days of exposure.   I got tested for this just to get over my depression and anxiety.

Title: Follow Up Question
Post by: scared72 on October 16, 2006, 03:24:20 pm
Hi,

Lately after 7 weeks of exposure, now 11 weeks for the past 4 weeks I have been having pain in my left underarm but I do not see swelling obviously.   I am really stressed about this.  I tested for hiv at 9 weeks and it was negative and then I also had PCR DNA and RNA tests done at 28 anbd 35 days after prossible exposure.  Can these symtoms occur for so long and no other symptoms at this time.  I know I should not follow symptoms but i am dying of anxiety.   I am on depression medication at this time as this thing is killing me mentally.  You guys are such a great support system.

I meant under my arm pit.  It is painful but I do not see any nodes swell up.   It comes and goes and it has been this way since week 8 after possible exposure.   I did have previously say week 1 after possible exposure swollen lymph nodes behing my ears.  Based on my 9 week and PCR testing I was thinking I have better chances of being negative but now I am gettign even more scared.   I hope I do not have to go on depression medicine again.  This week is my week 11 shoudl I get final testing next week at week 12 and get done with this terrible saga.

You guys are such a vital support for person like me and many others

You didn't need to test the first time let a lone any other time. You did not have a risk. If you are having symptoms as you say you are go to your doctor because it is unrelated to HIV.

Thank you very much.   I question.......I know you will say PCR test is not for diagnosing purposes.  What is the reason for that.

Is 9 week test a good indicator?

Lastly I will go back to my doctor.  I really appreciate your response.

It's to sensitive and it looks for the virus instead of antibody and is only used on people known to be HIV positive. It doesn't matter when you take a test, today, lastweek, next year it won't matter. You did not have a risk, nor would you have had a risk if you would have received a blowjob from a hundred HIV positive Nuns. You never had a risk.

Thanks for the reply.   I am talking about PCR-DNA test. Not the quantitative test Viral Load Test.  You gusy are so prompt in your response.  I appreciate it

Hi Ann/Andy/Rapid Rod:

Since week 8 of my suspected exposure I have been having pain under my left armpits, it stays during day time but as soon as I go the gym and come back its better in the nite.   Next week is my 13th week.   Should I get tested or I am ok.   I am really scared as this armpit pain has lasted for almost 4 weeks now and I am getting increasingly scared.

I just cant get over the fact that I am negative as I am such a hypochondriac.   I may need therapy.

scared,

Your negative results aren't going to change. You didn't have an exposure and you didn't have a risk. You do not have hiv.

Hiv does not cause underarm pain. Go to your doctor to find out what IS causing the pain. Whatever it is, it isn't hiv.

You do not need further testing. You are hiv negative. Period. End of story.
