WTF? with all these Prices
« on: March 27, 2011, 03:02:04 pm »
The price of Gas versus Printer Ink

All these examples do NOT imply that gasoline is cheap; it just illustrates how outrageous some prices are....

You will be really shocked by the last one!
(At least, I was...)

Compared with Gasoline......

Think a gallon of gas is expensive?

This makes one think, and also puts things in perspective.

Diet Snapple 16 oz $1.29 ... $10.32 per gallon

Lipton Ice Tea 16 oz $1.19 ..........$9.52 per gallon

Gatorade 20 oz $1.59 ..... $10.17 per gallon

Ocean Spray 16 oz $1.25 ......... $10.00 per gallon

Brake Fluid 12 oz $3.15 ...... $33.60 per gallon

Vick's Nyquil 6 oz $8.35 ... $178.13 per gallon

Pepto Bismol 4 oz $3.85 .. $123.20 per gallon

Whiteout 7 oz $1.39 ....... . $25.42 per gallon

Scope 1.5 oz $0.99 .....$84.48 per gallon

And this is the REAL KICKER...

Evian water 9 oz $1.49..$21.19 per gallon! $21.19 for WATER and the buyers don't even know the source

(Evian spelled backwards is Naive.)

Ever wonder why printers are so cheap?

So they have you hooked for the ink.
Someone calculated the cost of the ink at...............
(you won't believe it....but it is true........)
$5,200 a gal. (five thousand two hundred dollars)

So, the next time you're at the pump,be glad your car doesn't run on water, Scope, or Whiteout, Pepto Bismol, Nyquil or God forbid, Printer Ink!

Just a little humor to help ease the pain of your next trip to the pump...

And - If you don't read all of this
your muffler will fall off!!

Okay, your muffler won't really fall off...but, you might run out of toilet paper  ;D

DAMN!!! Those prices are CRAZY!

I HATE having to buy printer ink, it never seems to last long enough!

I read part of those prices and shit my pants -
and then, to top it off, I realized after shitting my pants, that I didn't have any toilet paper  - so, I went out to the car to drive to the store and get some and my muffler fell off ---
go figure ---

I probably should have read the whole thing. ::)

Dude, that is off the charts!  What kind of milk are you buying?  You can get that stuff around here for a little less than 3 bucks/gallon.

I live across the lake from Evian, France.  I think the water shipped around the world really does come from there, by the way. Though it's owned by Nestle if you look at the fine print.  Biggest food company in the world and not so eco friendly as we know.  If you live in or around Evian, you get it for free cause it runs out of a public fountain where you can fill up all you want.

I think the movement against bottled water is great. What a colossal ecological waste, plastic, shipping it, all those wasted bottles etc. etc.  Most places have pretty good tap water and it tastes great and its fresh.

Switzerland has a lot of water, it runs non-stop out of fountains in many towns and you can drink it.

If I buy bottled water for some reason I try to get it from the most local bottling company.  At least it hasn't wasted tons of energy shipping it.

The Swiss post has a side business - they'll refill your ink cartridges for cheap. Also, people should buy it generic, online.

No-name store brand champagne is 15-20 bucks a bottle.

There's other good bubbly from non-champagne regions in France for only 10 bucks. Totally delicious.  So I guess you can have 2 buck bottles of coke or a bottle of champagne for 2x or 3x the price.  Funny.

Beer is cheap. Great store brands for 50 cents to a dollar - 50cl cans.

Some liquids still seem like a pretty good buy, all things considered.

I think its the carbon footprint that we should also consider.  Off season vegetables and fruits shipped around the world. They're often cheap but... Aren't we all paying for that sooner or later when the oil runs out cause we needed strawberries and asparagus all year round?

Milk here is about $2.24 a gallon.  And I use a Brita pitcher, which I replace the filter in every two months, and it's $!5 for 3 filters.  So, that's the cost of my water.  I fill up a water bottle and take it to work with me, so I don't buy plastic water bottles.

I will NEVER give up my coffee no matter how expensive it gets.  Every morning I have 4, maybe 5 mugs of the good stuff.  I may not do the designer clothes anymore but I insist on 'top shelf' coffee that is freshly ground then brewed.  Not the flavored stuff... just top of the line Colombian, Brazilian, or Jamaican.  Costa Rican is also good.

I would kill, destroy, and eliminate anything that gets in the way of my morning coffee fix!!!  LOL..just kidding.

I did let myself run out of it once (not on purpose) and when I woke up... and I wake up way early most of the time, I had to get in the car and go get some beans from the 24 hour PigglyWiggly.  I have this thing about putting evaporated milk in it too.  High maintenance coffee drinker here but everything else I usually encounter during my day I can deal with w/o getting too anxious about.

Tsk tsk what would Michele Obama think about you boys' Coke habits.

Well if the sugar isn't making you fat or diabetic, I bet it does at least keep your pipes clean.

Oddly Ive been told by heroine addicts that the drug does the same thing - preservative. Look at Keith Richards. Marianne Faithful (decent new album, by the way.)

I couldn't tell you the price of a gallon of gas if you asked me.

Wasn't it the first President Bush who got into trouble for not knowing how much gas costs?  Or, was it a gallon of milk??

I know it isn't popular to say, but when you think all that it takes to get oil out of the ground, shipped, refined, and then shipped to stations (not to mention all the trouble oil causes in the world), then the price of gas doesn't seem that bad.  I was just going through pix from 1996 and happened to get a gas station sign in the pic.  It said, "$1.76/gal".  When you think about how much food, natural gas, electricity, cable, etc has gone up since 1996, $3.55/gal here doesn't sound like that much out of line with everything else.  People in Europe pay $5-$6/gal, right?

I've kept my gas and electric bills going back 10 years.  10 years ago, I paid around $120/mth for both electric and gas.  Now, in the same home, it is $250/mth.  Back then, I could leave all my outdoor Christmas lights on from dusk to dawn.  Now, even with most being LED, I have to set them on a 4 hour timer, or the bill will be $400.

In 1999 gas was 99 cents a gallon.

DAMN!!! Those prices are CRAZY!

I HATE having to buy printer ink, it never seems to last long enough!

Don't buy brandname ink, but buy generic instead from webshops

I can take my ink cartridge to Walgreen's and get it refilled for $10.

I think the movement against bottled water is great. What a colossal ecological waste, plastic, shipping it, all those wasted bottles etc. etc.  Most places have pretty good tap water and it tastes great and its fresh.

Truth. I don't buy bottled water unless I have to, and I keep empty bottles in my car to refill at a water fountain whenever I'm out there. Most tap water in the US is pretty good and we have a huge water filter/softener at the side of this house, plus a water filter underneath the sink that goes out to a special faucet next to the regular one. Good enough for me.

Also, I may add, New York City has the best tap water ever. It's clean and cold. :D

I do have to admit that I don't always drink just Coke. I have three water bottles, and two that snap onto my bike, that I refill and drink out of when I'm out doing work around the property.

I also have 2 24oz Coke bottles that I refill from the 2-liter bottles. I can't see wasting all that plastic, much less paying a buck 79 for 24 oz when I'm paying only a buck 25 for 68 oz.

What ever happened to 12oz cokes.  What ever happened to portion control in the US.

My theory is that it started when our parents started forcing us to eat everything on our plate - full or not - before we could even leave the table. That spawned a whole generation of overeaters, which in turn created their own. People started demanding more and more on their plates. I pretty much can't go out to a restaurant now without coming home with a doggy bag and that's saying something 'cause I'm a husky guy who eats a bit more than I should. o_O

Michelle Obama should campaign to get some cheap prices back on small portions.
I can understand that a huge container adds up to cheaper unit price, but should the huge container itself be cheaper than the small one?

I remember always just buying a quarter pound and then sitting on it!  That sure made the cost/oz easier to justify.

Sams Club, Costco, and all the like are the result of that American need to buy and consume in bulk.  There is no portion control for most here.  I am guilty of that myself.

The US is full of obese people that won't admit that they're obese, much less that it's their own fault.

I have at one time, when I 1st moved to ABQ both a Sams Club & Costco membership, but Bob & I only went to them a couple of times, and ended up giving a lot of the stuff to our neighbors, it just wasn't worth it, to buy in bulk like that, kinda a waste of money, our neighbors were very happy to get all this free stuff tho  :)

I think that obesity is genetic in some people, if you eat-to-live, and not live to eat, then you probably won't be obese  ;) but, then again some people are just GLUTTONS and can't STOP  ::) misery always likes company.....

Truth. They'd rather go around in their little motorized scooters than actually stand up and do something about it. Denial isn't a river in Africa... :/

There is clinical research to support your statement. Many Americans believe themselves to be thinner than they actually are.
